Ignore the trolls and ragers. If someone is flaming you push "Tab" and you'll see a mute button next to their name. Use that liberally and you'll be much happier. You can also report them after the game for flaming you (though don't ask others to report them because that's against the Terms of Use.)

Last hitting (CS) is one of the most important skills you can learn. Its more important than getting kills so focus on getting the last hit on every minion you can (though never risk dying or losing a lot of health for a CS.) If you can get your last hitting up to at least 5 per minute you absolutely wreck everyone in the mid game because you will have so much more gold then them.

Don't overcommit offensively - deaths/kills only happen due to mistakes. You can't really force a kill, you can only capitalize on enemy mistakes. The BIGGEST mistake I seem to see with new players is that they'll chase too far with blood in their eyes, only to overextend and die.

Focus on CS'ing and trading while in lane. You get gold when you land the last hit on a minion, this adds up very quickly and is very important. You can't control your teammates or enemies, but you CAN control your CS and it's the most reliable way to get yourself ahead. When you don't have a minion to last hit, that's the time to try to put damage on the enemy champion. Of course, if your ally is coming to your lane (to "gank" for you, giving you a numbers advantage in the fight, 2v1 or 3v2) you should follow up as this is a good opportunity to get a kill.

Be aware of the map and ward a lot. You can do a lot more aggressive plays if you know where the enemy team is. You can catch your opponents if you can see them and they can't see you. The same applies to the other team, so if you can't see them they could be in the process of trying to catch you. You should always try to be aware of where enemies are or where they should be. E.g. the enemy mid laner is not on the map - are they roaming towards another lane, or are they recalling to buy? The former is more likely if they bought recently and are high health, the latter is likely if they've been out for a while and were hurt a lot. Also pay lots of attention to your own lane, use the v or g keys to ping when enemies are missing.

Prioritize objectives over kills. It is NOT worthwhile chasing the lone surviving enemy halfway across the map to get a kill (and they may get away) when Baron is standing freely available beside you. Think about what you would do AFTER getting that kill (take turret, take baron?) and evaluate whether you can do that without killing them. Also evaluate whether you won't be able to do it due to his allies respawning before you manage to kill him. You don't win the game by getting to 50 kills, you win the game by destroying the nexus. Kills can help (it's easier to take objectives when enemies are dead, and the gold helps you kill them more in the future), but turrets are necessary and get your whole team fed rather than just you.

Leaguecraft has a lot of handy videos, they're pretty in-depth

LS also has a lot of good videos, he deals with more conceptual stuff (through concrete examples)

I would suggest buying every beginner champion, and before using a champion look up a guide. There are plenty of great guides on YouTube as well as websites such as Mobafire, LoLKing, and etc.

Adc: Ashe Sivir MissFortune Jinx Support: Nami Soraka Janna Braum Sona Karma Mid: Ahri Annie Heimerdinger Karma Malzahar Lux Varus Jg: Volibear MonkeyKing Skarner Sejuani Rammus MasterYi Top: Darius Garen Heimerdinger Maokai Olaf Nautilus Poppy Sion Rammus Trundle MonkeyKing Volibear

Try these out, and see which ones you like. Every week on free week try all the champions out, find out which role suits you the best, and if youre looking to improve, play few champions in the role you like. 2-4 champions in 2 different roles is what I recommend.
