Magical Journey Interactions
Hello Everyone,
This is my first time posting so if I do anything wrong please be constructive.
The Bard Q&A went a long way towards people understanding how Magical Journey is intended to work with various champion abilities, but as with any revolutionary mechanic there is still a lot of confusion around as I understand it.
I think it would be really cool (and helpful for player all skill levels) if Riot released a video case study, or Mechanics Preview. In this case study, there would be a short gameplay video where various interactions with Magical Journey are illustrated, then the interactions are reviewed one by one and explained, ideally with help or commentary from the Gameplay Designer (Riot Rabid LLama if I'm not mistaken).
I have a few ideas for an illustrative situation to display:
- Bard Creates a portal lengthwise through a very long thin wall.
- Shortly after entering Magical Journey, a wild Jarvan appears from the side of the wall and uses Cataclysm on Bard.
- At the same time, Poppy uses Heroic Charge, slamming an enemy into the entrance of Magical Journey.
What would typically happen? This Gameplay segment would last ~2 seconds, but would help illustrate and clarify many things. In particular I would like to find out: Is Jarvan ejected from the wall: before/after Cataclysm, or does he join Bard? Are champions: trapped by impassable terrain/ejected from the wall, or will they ignore Cataclysms terrain? Can champions dash into Magical Journey from: the entrance/from the side? Can champions be forced into Magical Journey? Will Poppy's target collide with: the wall/with Cataclysm?
There are many more interactions that could be demonstrated in a single video (knockups, projectiles and suppression mostly) , I've only used 4 champions so far and the segment is only ~2 seconds. However I realize that the explanation would take some time and the video shouldn't be too long or complicated.
If anyone can definitively answer these questions then great! But I want this discussion to focus mostly on whether they think this 'Gameplay Preview' idea holds merit. Does the community think this would be helpful enough to merit Riots time? Is this an idea that could implemented well for past/future releases of champs with oddball abilities (thresh lantern, yorick ult, etc.). With enough discussion maybe we can get this to happen. Or maybe this is unnecessary and I'm just a scrub :P
This post is getting long so I'm going to stop.
Thanks for listening, ArkeIight
