Fuck autofill

Nixogan··8 votes·2,687 views

I just got autofilled for a role I don't want 3 times in a row and dodged. Who the hell thought this was a good idea? I spent a fucking hour including dodge timers trying to get into a game and kept getting support. I shouldn't be forced to play something I have no interest in. I know how to play support, but I don't find it fun anymore, I AM NOT sitting through probably 30 minutes of complete misery. I'd wait an hour if it meant I got to play the role I literally fucking launched the game for. Riot think its perfectly fine to force full matches of complete fucking boredom on someone? If you're gonna keep giving me a middle finger, why would I even play anymore?

Read the very first post in that article

Or if you don't want to, here's a rough short version

"Autofill was introduced as a last resort way of ensuring people didn’t sit in queues for ridiculously long stretches."

Queue times without autofill would be much longer than what we have now

Riot said once that without the system, times spent in queue could likely triple at a bare minimum

Let me spell that out for you. You could very well be sitting in a queue for 1 game for around 30 min if you are lucky

The system we have isn't perfect, but I'd rather have a flawed system that works over anything else

Why not create a system that isn't flawed?

Because everything has flaws. Something deemed flawless still has little flaws, and people will bitch or abuse it to their hearts’ content.

note the quote I directly pulled from the post.

this would indicate any of the following: -they had something in place before and it failed -they had nothing in place before -other options they had on deck were either unviable for the game or had bigger problems it created

Autofill and the system that uses autofill are two different things. I'm not asking why autofill isn't improved (though it does go haywire sometimes). I'm asking why the system isn't improved.

that's a bit harder

its possible that they can't improve it without either breaking what does work about autofill or without breaking league as a whole or it could be that autofill can't be improved upon

the first would cause issues for all of ranked (excluding tft) for an unknown amount of time while they undo what they did and repair what got broken

the second causes issues for league as a whole, they then have to undo the damage and fix anything that got broken as a result

the third has no real issues other than the existing problems most people have with autofill

They can make the system better without breaking anything.

in what ways though?

these things, regardless of what they are, need to be tested

the PBE does this to some extent but since normal League has far more players, that is where the new features might encounter problems and thus possibly break

whenever they add/remove/tweak something it can create a bug either directly on what they changed or it creates bugs in other areas. these bugs often can go unnoticed by the devs and people in the PBE only coming to light once it hits live servers

and then it can take weeks for a fix to come through

there in lies the big risk

sure it could only be on a few things, maybe a champion or two gets removed from rank play until the fix is put out, but depending on the problem these bugs cause it could take ranked down as a whole for the duration of time while they attempt to fix the problem

Personally, I think it should at least be an option. I'd much rather wait 30 minutes and play a game in the position I actually wanna play, rather than a 2 minute wait, get autofilled as jungle, play a 40-50 minute game (champ select included), and go through it all over again.

This is a game, afterall. Maybe some people don't mind being thrust into various roles for diversity, but I'd say the majority have a preferred champ or role they want, and being autofilled is just a game wasting time trying to get to play that desired game.

It's honestly a toxic, terrible system. If you're okay with being autofilled for a faster wait time, that's what the fill option is for. It should be an option to check, rather than a role to select.

The solution is really simple.

Check the box (after selecting your preferred positions) if you're okay with being filled to other roles for a faster wait time. If you're not, know that waiting for an open mid position could take 30+ minutes.

There used to be some pretty long wait times in WoW, when their automatic matchmaking system was first released. I thought it was worth the wait every single queue.

I really don't understand why this is so difficult to implement. It's a win-win. Plus a win for Riot, with people having one less thing to bitch about.

having the option to turn something off that most if not all the community hates would mean

NO ONE HAS IT TURNED ON

Alright then take away role selection and go back to pick order where you get your role less. Autofill is required for role selection to work as players queue up for different roles more than others. The rest of us aren't waiting in hour long queues because a handful of players are babies that can't handle playing a different role occassionally. This is a team game is not all about you so if you can't handle that then go find a single player or solo game

The majority of people don't want to wait for game so this has to be done.

Remember when people had to actually know how to functionally play all lanes and roles because role selection in matchmaking didn't exist? People were more versatile, and the game was better for it, because people had to learn how do everything effectively.

You don't get that these days, and it makes players bad because they throw fits when they can't one-trick, and they also aren't as familiar with other champions, so they're often caught with their pants down when something unexpected occurs.

So deal with it. Play the game, and do well at it. Don't throw a tantrum because you can't get exactly what you want just because the thousands of other players in the game are also trying to get exactly what you want too.

Also wasn't fun being forced to play jungle or top or whatever. I have the most fun in the bottom lane as an ADC or Suppport, and the ability to have one of these roles in 99% of my games makes 99% of my games have the potential to be more fun.

I will tell you my version of why Auto Fill exists.

If you want to have fun and play the role and champ you like, Rito says, "SHUT UP!"

and also says, "YOU'RE AN IDIOT!"

and, "YOU AREN'T ALLOWED TO HAVE FUN, THATS FOR THE DEVELOPERS KID!"

oh and, "You're STUPID! so shut up again!"

Having mentioned that little detail, Team Builder is what you want and what you like. Because Team Builder was the last time I got to play 5v5 Summoners Rift in the exact Role and Champ I wanted. After that mode disappeared, it wasn't as fun.

Also, bans!

Yeah CHAMP BANS. Thats a big one, because if you wanted to play the champ you love now, well guess what, you're still considered stupid because your champ will get banned and you won't be able to pick your champ, and you won't be able to pick your role, so just-----------shut---------UP. OK?

This is a fun game you love and want to play, remember, RITO says so.

Yeah.... I just wrote all that.

im all for the "opt out of auto-fill" options.. riot will never do that though. they launched the role selection so people could enjoy the game. mainly by playing the role they would like.... however in the lower ranks long Q times were not an issue. i waited maybe 7 minutes for a game before auto-fill. rarely 7 minutes but closer to 5. i welcomed that and did not mind waiting. then the reports of 30 minute wait times in the top tiers. so i have a compromise... only place auto-fill on in leagues that need it. lower ranks DO NOT NEED auto fill. maybe diamond dose or maybe platnum. silver and lower dose not need auto fill on 24/7. its only not been on 1 time since auto fill launched. auto fill gose against the big idea for the new role selection. Why go against a well loved idea that people liked.
