Finding Counters and Synergies

I am a silver 4 player that uses programs like blitz.gg to figure out things like if this matchup is good for me or not. The thing about using programs like these is it doesn't feel very rewarding to be a better player in the drafting phase just because you have a program. I'd rather look at the enemy champions and think "Mordakaiser doesn't have much mobility, so which champion can gain an advantage with that". So my question is what is the process that pros use to figure out which champions work well with other champions, and which can counter other champions.
