Ornn changes?

I'm just going to start by saying I am in no way an "Ornn main," however I would like to clarify all of this by my sole top lane experience.

Ornn feels incredibly weak to me in his current state. it seems they took him from what he was created as being a tanky top lane to supposedly a damage champ? I don't really understand the move to take away his shield when his big problem was the damage he was dealing. Why not instead of taking his shield away you just nerf brittle? I am not in no way active on the forums but I feel from playing the game this would've been a much better route than just completely taking the shield away. I couldn't care less about unstoppable.

Made this in a very quick manner and am just curious what the general community thinks. <3

True, everyone complains about the damage more than the shield and unstoppable...it's sort of like how Riot handled the Jungle...

I blame that late season 7 patch that gave him %max from %current..and then initially kept near the same percentages...then nerfed.

Unstoppable seems useless for top lane especially when probably only 1/4 can straight pull him out of W early and the shield will keep him safe. If you're saying keep it for team fights I say remove it, brittle in games doesn't have that much impact anyways as it stands. Not having unstoppable if anything will just make you another target ontop of the midlaner and adc.

I was just pointing out how you didn't want something he was created with to be removed, but he was released with being unstoppable and you don't care about it.

The ultimate issue was apparently his trading power, since his main damage at the time was also his shield ability, W. I completely disagree with the choice they made to make it not an “i win” button, preferring they hit his W breath damage and put the shield back, since it was the damage people hated.

I disagree with straight nerfing Brittle itself, as that was what was supposed to be unique about him. Maybe a lower percentage, but it’s debuff on tenacity is a core.

RiotRepertoir’s one tweet (the controversial “no Riven nerf” one) did include Ornn in a list of buffs for 9.6, they just haven’t gone up yet. We’ll have to see what they are. My hope and wish is shield back, damage shift down, but that likely won’t happened, especially since that’ll widen “the gap between his pro and solo play”..the entire reason they focused on keeping his damage.

Even then his W was never an "i win" button following his limelight nerfs. Orrn was meant to punish melee champions and the HP scaling shield let him function as a tank. What riot needed to do was drop the champion damage on his W and give the damage portion an AP ratio so he could build damage if he wanted (also Liandries rylais orrn was fun...)

Brittle really doesnt need changes. Orrn needs his shield back, the shield with unstoppable would give orrn skill expression he currently doesnt have... ... And honestly, orrn never needed nerfs after his original batch of them following his release. He didnt need buffs either, although im happy with the state of his passive right now.

If I remember correctly, it wasn’t just the damage, but dealing decent damage while also shielding at the same time with a single button press. They’re taking a similar approach with urgot recently, moving the shield from his W.

Don’t get me wrong, I completely agree that the shield was necessary. My stance is I’d set W back to early season 7, shield, unstoppable, %current health (so less over time). I honestly disagree with giving an AP ratio on W, though that would allow for the base scaling to drop, but I disagreed with other Hearthblood on that. I was personally fine with less damage ratios so tank builds were the priority, after witnessing complaints about AP Malphite (tank is better) and AP Maokai and their sheer lack of tankiness.

Agreed, wholeheartedly. Just saying if Brittle needed touched, just a small number nerf. I, at one point, thought, if necessary, it would help if it only procced on hard CC and not on his autos.

He didn’t even get nerfs on release if I recall. He got some QoLs because his delays were a bit much at first for many, and then some other smaller buffs. Don’t recall nerfs until after they changed W from %current health to %max health. Maybe the Brittle duration was at the time, i don’t recall when they lowered that. He was pretty healthy early on though.

Although, yes, I actually like how his passive scales him toward later game now with the %bonus armor/mr and his upgrades for free, and having two of them.

I am an Ornn main on the other hand, and the champ to me is actually quite strong at what he does. Having a solid laning phase and then scaling into a lategame santa claus. The shield had to be taken away in order to move power to the other parts of Ornns kit, so instead of rushing 40% cdr and spamming w, you have to manage your resources and think about how you trade. If you're really concerned though, Riot confirmed that they will be buffing ornn in 9.6. I just hope they don't go overboard. Statistics of Ornn point at a sub50 winrate as far as i'm aware, but that's because he's not a particularly soloq-friendly champion, due to his teamwide supporting capabilities, and therefore his team reliance.
