Ranked.....

So is it just me or lp gain and loss is way to ridiculous at silver 2 to gold 5? Me and my friend were duoing we were on a 5 game win streak and both were gaining max of 21 lp. But then we lost one game and lost 20 lp....... How is this fair? And is there a reason why I'm losing more and not gaining more? Thanks.
