Should Games be Nullified if Someone AFK's?

Casual pleb coming at you here!

I do not play many games of League of Legends because I have limited time while in college, making this situation more frustrating to me. I logged on eager to do my placements this season, as part of the new ranked system your first game in a position is your "preliminary placement game". I started my first game got into the game and I have a mid laner, buy items, walk out of the base, and sit in the jungle. The guy sat afk in our jungle for 3-5 minutes then left the game. Somehow this loss placed me 3 ranks below what I have been hard stuck at during last season (so odds are that's about where I belong at this time). I understand that your placements are not going to put you at the same rank and normally drop people down a tier or so but for me, this was a huge hit since climbing 3 ranks could take dozens and dozens of games just to get back to where I was. I think that games, where a player was afk and recieved punishment by riot for being afk, should be nullified for the losing team with fewer players. League of Legends is a 5v5 game and when someone gets punished for turning that into a 4v5 I think that the game should not count. Yes I've won 4v5's and ive lossed 5v4's but generally speaking I think something just isn't right with the current system since people are getting punished whether it be wasted time or LP loss. Possibly give 1-3 LP to those on the team of an AFK who was punished by the god Rito. How would you make it so that this isn't abused? Honestly, I am not certain, in my opinion, I don't think it would honestly but I would love to hear some suggestions because I think its unfair and puts a bad taste in player's mouths especially when starting the season. Possibly only allow this during placement games? I feel like it could be applied to most games but maybe starting here allows riot to watch for how people are abusing this?

I just think this is a topic that deserves some sort of acknowledgment because I have seen it happen too often and it can put a damper on an entire season.

Hope you guys are able to grow this into something that riot could possibly implement in some way into their system as a "sorry for wasting your time with this afk" consolation.

Problem is that if you're in a duo queue, and you're losing heavily, this could easily abused since you or your duo goes afk and neither of you lose LP

I agree with you completely, but there has to be some way riot can sort these instances out? I understand people will abuse the system whenever they can but do you have any thoughts on how riot can minimize this risk?

I have suggested an objective change in the case of an AFK. This was on the old board though.

Basically the objective becomes a case of destroy the nexus before set time if you want to gain any LP when given in an advantage of numbers over the other team. This would make the defending team do everything they can to delay defeat to reduce the amount of LP they lose up to a time where they actually start gaining LP for defending while said advantaged team wants to destroy the nexus before as soon as possible to maximize their LP gains before eventually reaching LP loss territory.

The timer would count down 2 times. the first is to the net zero lost or gains and the second would start granting the gains to the disadvantaged team and the game would end once the second timer reaches zero granting the disadvantaged team the full LP gains they would have gotten for a victory.

I don't know how it would work but it would provide incentive for people to keep playing their hardest in spite of an AFK by changing the location of the goal posts.

I really like this idea like genuinely this seems cool. buuuuut given riot they seem to stay away from something like this which would be a big change. NOT SAYING ITS NOT A GOOD IDEA. At this point i think we should humor even bad ideas honestly because right now nothing is being done. What about instead of an FF vote or a Remake vote riot implements a AFK vote starting at 5 minutes or something if everyone (minus the AFK of course Yasuo ) on a team is able to vote yes someone is afk the game goes into review possibly nullifying the game? I honestly think your idea sounds great and could even be a fun game mode if tweaked.

I think the lords at Rito could figure out a way to determine whether or not someone is duo with you possibly limiting it to only if its genuinely a rando not my buddy whos in the game with me and i tell to afk if we are losing. Riot has some pretty advanced filters applied to the community.

They could but they don't want to fix the game. They have hidden MMR after all just to fuck with you and force 50% winrate. If you don't climb fast enough in ranked, you will play a lot. They want people to play a lot. I think they are scared that people will stop playing when they are satisfied with their rank.

Obviously the leadership is r%%%%%ed or they don't play their own game.

Yeah, I think riot definitely has a problem with this I just want them to start focusing on some genuine quality of life changes. Is it too much to ask that my most important ranked game gets absolutely destroyed because of someone breaking their rules? All I'm asking is that they defend those that are not doing anything wrong since whether or not the person gets banned they are still punished with a loss. Now with the hidden MMR why wouldn't you want to establish a system where a player can see growth? If I'm hyped I went from plat to diamond or something I will have more motivation to keep playing since I am seeing progress. That's all people want to see when they get done playing a game whether it be call of duty, fortnite, or League of Legends. When I get done with a game in CoD I see XP increases that actually matter (this champion capsule crap is not enough) sooo we look for ranked increases and when people don't see any change they get sick of the game and leave until they forget about how monotonous it was to grind 50-100 games and stay the same ranked especially when important games are ruined by people blatantly break the rules and you're just a bystander. For example, if someone assaults you, they get caught they go to jail, but you still receive compensation and I don't think it is too much to ask that riot look into providing compensation for those caught in the crossfire since simply seeing someone got punished is enough but they pretend like it is.

As long I have to carry bronze team to get out of silver to gold against platnium opponents. Game will never be fair.

I play on a team of 1 plat 2 low silvers 1 bronze and 1 unranked against 1 diamond 2 plats and 2 golds HOW in what way does their system mess that up? It needs to cycle back to being based on current rank more now cuz at this point its ridiculous.

You never will be playing with bronzies on your team and plats on the enemy.

not true

submitted a ticket to rito about it cuz of it

Right but this also means that if you're in a VC with these people, Riot wouldn't know if you told them to afk. Also, this incentivizes afks as they now have an excuse to afk. As well as this means that people generally would give up right away after an afk, if they know that they won't lose LP.

Theinfected021 votes

so riot can't tell if you are queued with someone? and it wouldn't raise a flag if your duo afk? dumb complaint...it causes people who afk to lose more LP ive literally read this comment to too many people and everyone said that it genuinely makes 0 sense XD

Cotten Eyed Joe1 votes

Yeah but afks aren't like in every game. It's roughly a rare occurrence to some degree. Maybe a bit more than rare. And I'm not talking about queue. I'm talking about how in ranked, people generally try to VC in the lobby.

Theinfected031 votes

not sure howd they do it but its worth looking into cuz ive heard its a problem to

I think this is actually one of the few posts ive read thats got a good base that the community can help tweak. The main thing that makes me want them to use a version of this (a lenient version so there arent a billion fucking nullified games) is that if its actually pulled off correctly it can make a big difference. Theres nothing more frustrating than losing a series or something like that because someone afk's at 6 minutes. Hope this thread gets some action and is addressed as a genuine problem i have in some of my games.
