Hey there guys,

I have just seen all these new runes and I pretty much like them so far. However, I am a bit worried about the future of most of my favorite mid champions and some others with DoT mechanics. I am a huge fan of DoT champions because of how fun they are to play, and I prefer them to burst mages and assassins. I spent an hour trying to figure out what runes I should use for Swain or Malzahar, but I couldn't find anything that would work on them because they offer nothing like Deathfire Touch. **Press the Attack ** would be so cool on them if it granted AD or AP on subsequent attacks. Electrocute is literally Thunderlord's Decree which is not viable either on Swain or Cassiopeia. Arcane Comet sounds fun but only when you want to poke a champion or when you can stun/root them, but imagine a Swain in his R form in the middle of 5 enemy champions hurling one comet at one enemy. I feel like Riot wants to favor AD champions and assassins but they forget about those few players like me who really enjoy playing Swain, Cassiopeia etc...

What do you guys think about this? If you do not agree with me or you think you have found some viable and fun runes for these precious champions, please let me know and share it with me!

Malz isn't gonna have it that bad. Meteor- Ultimore- Transcendence- Scorch into anything besides resolve looks alright.

Meddler said something about possibly adding a 4th keystone to sorcery in today's gameplay thoughts.

Singed : I can get infinite scaling %health based of minions dying around me and a turret killing ability that scales off health. While dipping in free AP increases over time and movement speed (with more free ap for extra ms). I'm fine.

Cass tends to take Stormraiders these days right? There's an analogous rune in the new system.

No please not. DFT in its current state is just a bland damage up, and because DoT spells last so long it adds allot of damage. Keystones should change the way you play, but DFT is just a power up without providing any form of gameplay around it. DFT could exist on DoT champions in a balanced way, but the appilcation should probably be restricted to unique spell casts. That way DoT champions have to cast multiple abilities, spaced out of eachother, would they want maximum DFT damage. Way better then a one click and forget empowered DoT spell.

I'm not too sure if it would work for some of those, however apparently the rune "Press the Attack" Is actually going to be adaptive, aka AD or AP according to a rioter. The one on the page was an older or incorrect version apparently. I can see it working for Cass very well.

Very worried since Swain is my best champ for ranked. Reworked and new runes, may as welll learn a new champion.

Agree 100%. I play Cassiopeia but most importantly Singed . I don't know if Riot think DFT is boring or something but they should give us something for these champions

I feel the same way! What makes this worse is that the Scorch rune is negligible damage and especially on Cassiopeia (who is the only champ out of the ones you mentioned that I play), it is not a viable option when you have Gathering Storm in the same branch. A possible change could be for Lethal Tempo. The Precision path is meant for sustained damage, but is only focused on ADCs. It even has a keystone for potshot adcs (Fleet Footwork) that don't fit into the notion of "sustained damage"

Lethal Tempo change --

1.5 seconds after damaging a champion, gain 30-80% bonus attack speed or 10-30% Cooldown Reduction (adaptive). This allows you to temporarily go past the normal caps.

This change wouldn't help damage-over-time effects specifically, but would be geared toward the fast spell rotations of battlemages.

Why are you worried? DFT was cancer rune and there is no place for rune like that in league. Why in the world would you think that having rune that applies DoT on your already DoT spells is healthy? It just makes no sense and logic to me. Finally we can have DoT mages not being balanced around a single keystone rune.

I think there are plenty viable choices for DoT champs, but don't forget about future development.

Meddler has said they are already looking into this, so we'll see how it goes. I am of the opinion that they may not need it (provided scorch is good enough), but we'll see when they've been tested.

didnt dot champs get nerfed because of dft in the first place? and now theyre just removing it?

I Mainly on normals play DoT heroes, Swain, Brand, Mordekaiser. But now they damage is realy low. At first i enjoy new runes, and expect somethin new in game, but, well they change game on Hots direction, soo many snow ball possiblities soo all assassins and burst casters are happy, During flat magic pen remove, just destroy picks like mordekaiser, before runes changes he no need rework now he need. All heroes becomes same now, deal more dmg i less time, find the higest dmg three. I play Vel and Karthus and mid with dfg, and i think they will feel this changes too. Only strong liandry buff can help a bit, but well, casters items are already limited soo all will build it.

Conclusion. After last season casters reworks riot must rework them all again, becsue they game-break runes.

I'm with you man, Brand main here and also play a ton of Zyra. Deathfires going away completely is pretty bad. On top of that, magic pen runes are going away so the only sources of flat magic pen are sorc boots and guise/liandry's. For a lot of these DoT type mages, magic pen is far superior for scaling than AP. And these champs aren't exactly top tier in the first place. Losing their ability to scale with extra flat magic pen is going to really harm them in addition to deathfires going away.

I am, mostly, very happy with the new rune system. I think it;s going to be a lot of fun and invite a lot more diversification with builds. But Brand is my absolute favorite champ with Zyra being a close second...and I have enough trouble justifying picking them in ranked already. This is going to hurt them so much.

According to PBE, Press the attack gives adaptive AP/AD. However, you are forced to get attack speed as a secondary stat, so this is basically never viable for AP champions anyway(Azir and Teemo would probably want increased attack speed from Lethal Tempo). Cass will work well with Phase Rush, but other than that I'm dissappointed that Riot has not managed to cover more champions with the keystone setup. Maybe Glacial Augment paired with an early Liandrys would be good?

I just realized that AurelionSol has no useful keystones here either... he can't proc new thunderlords or surge because he only has 2 offensive abilities that deal direct damage...unless his W counts, but even then you need to use his ultimate.

It does grant AP, adaptively.
