How to solve supports itemization
Supports have a recurrent problem: despite being supports, they still need stats to be relevant but any support item strong enough is always abused by other lanes and then ends up getting nerfed to oblivion. Traditionally, supports have a hard time getting relevant late game.
My idea is easy: give the passive Dawn Light to every support item.
Dawn Light: Gives you the blessing Enlightened Blessing. This blessing increases in power with every item with dawn light in your inventory (like a stack system).
The first time you buy an item with this passive, you choose the kind of blessing you want to receive. (Like a small menu appearing or buying the blessing like GP ult)
Some ideas for the blessings.
Protector: Each item in your inventory with the passive Dawn Light increases your HP by 100, your Armor by 10 and your MR by 10
Mind Channel: Each item in your inventory with the passive Dawn Light increases your AP by 40
Transcendent: Each item in your inventory with the passive Dawn Light increases the movement speed of nearby allies by 10
These are just to give ideas, numbers might not be right on target. Don't hesitate if you have suggestions about it.
It means support will be rewarded for buying those items. Others classes will have a hard time abusing this system.
Some factors could be used to balance power:
- Changing numbers for the blessings. It could also be steps rewards: like +10 for the first item, +30 for the second item and so on. Or the rewards could be leveled.
- Putting or removing the passive dawn Light on some items. Some items could give two stacks of Enlightened
- Making the blessing appear only after 2 items bought with Dawn Light
- Make the blessing an enchantment for Sightstone (you receive the buffs if you buy the enchantment). I fear this will reduce readability a bit.
