Spellthief's/Frostfang Non-Existent 500+ Gold Counter

So, I've noticed upon playing that once you complete the 500 gold quest, the gold tracker disappears, and I haven't been able to find a way to see how much gold the item has generated past 500 (I assume this happens for all gold items). It's a little annoying, as I always like to see how valuable it becomes. Is there anything I've missed?
