Why can't you earn chests on champions you don't own?

I thought the whole point of getting keys and chests for S rank was to reward players for doing well. So, what gives? I'm automatically disqualified from it because I don't own the champ? Shouldn't it be the opposite, as it should be harder to get S rank with a champion you have comparatively less experience playing???

What if I was playing aram and I randomed a champion I didn't own? You're going to punish me for that? This kind of ruins the point of the free week champions and makes me wish I didn't random any of them in ARAM because I won't earn anything from them.

My real problem is the key fragment ARAM bug for un-owned champs...

Edit: if they implemented what you suggest they'd have to remove the "chest if your queuemate gets an S" thing.

Don't think it's a bug. They just don't want you to earn anything from unowned champs

From the client side it seems intentional cause it explicitly says you cannot earn chests or key fragments. Don't know why they put that there if it wasn't intentional behavior but does that mean they are working on a fix? For both chests and keys or just keys?

Just keys I'm pretty sure (and crossing fingers). The chest thing would make ARAM the 5-man box hotspot clownfiesta. As someone who plays a ton of ARAM, that would be akin to the taste of stamps. Yuck.

Crafting was released in ARAM like a couple months ago. That's where the bug is. There was a red comment on it ~a week ago. Since you can't pick your champ, rolling a free champ you don't own means no crafting stuff even if you win the game.

It's explicitly stated to be a bug on the support site.

Note: There's currently a bug which prevents you from earning key fragments if you're playing a champion you don't own. This is unintended, and we're working on a solution.

If it was intended, Riot would just roll with it instead of providing the footnote.

Why not help out Riot and buy some champions?

It isn't hard to get the ip for all the champions. .... I have all the champions through IP.
