Shyvana's Nerf or update wtfever you want to call it

So turning shyvana in a mage, jgler, tank, bruiser, dps, ass champ is cool? No really wtf was that update on her, she was totally fine. I dont understand how champs that are actually played at a substantial rate gets buffs/nerfs and meanwhile its champs that almost havent gotten touched in 5 years. She is a Dragon that breathes fire, NOT A DAMN Fire Draco/Basilisk/Salamander......Is Brand her Son???? Cmon man you all cannot be serious, that was clearly a nerf. Dragons are tough as nails go ask Ed Sheeran, yet she has 5 bonus at all ranks??????WUT?????? 10% to Drakes and Elder???????????? WUT??????????????? 10% to objectives was your old league, when it was a bit more strategic. Games are fast now, and if they last long its probably because you guys installed that " SOLDIER NOT TO FAR BEHIND BS" where it seems any team (once they group mid 5) has a standing chance against a fed team. So sorry 10% on drakes doesnt do SHIT! Im either soloing dragon early af and noone noticed, my team just depleted bot and now its a 3 man on early drag. Or its late game and touching it almost makes it disappear anyways, so when do I get to benefit from this 10%?????? INCREASE IN SIZE RATHER THAN FLAME TRAIL?????? HOLY @!#$! Nerfed max range and damage on ult? It barely @#$#%$%@ did damage in the first place?!?!??!?!?

Whoever was in charge of these changes is a Meth/Heroin abuser. Making a damn Brandvana.

This update basically pushes her out of top lane since you need the dragons to get stats that matter while giving her ganking something that matters, somewhat with the cc immune ult. The bonus health may as well not be there for all the good it does. I could care less about hydra. I want to sit in team fights, burn people, and punch things. If the changes don't affect one of those things they might as well be irrelevant.

Losing burn trail makes it harder to kite sustained fighters and makes team fighting... awkward. With all the cc in the game you better sit on someone or lose damage, but that's hard cause you're even squishier now. It also makes proxing more costly in terms of health. I have yet to see a clear reason why it was removed other than overlapping with the new E. Abilities can overlap. Please revert.

In the update article, it was said what made shyvana a unique juggernaut was her ability to to engage. Is that it? She's not even that good at it. She has no other cc. She's a diving fighter with a single dive and zero cc. She relies entirely on speed and sustained damage to carry a fight. Her E adds nothing to this dynamic.

Dragon hate is dumb. It feels even more important to remain relevant than skarner's stupid towers and everyone absolutely LOVES those. Now I can rage twice as hard when a jungler misses smite, but it doesn't get me any closer to dragon form! I don't reasons to be mad at my team.

Lastly, I just want to mention how awful it feels to use 'e' in dragon form. Hit? A small moment of gratification followed by irritation as the opponent just walks away from the zone. Whiff? I was better off not transforming. I feel like I have no agency over the scorched earth now and it feels awful. Why is a juggernaut getting a sniping ability?

Things that are good; CC Immune ult is worth the damage nerf (But why less range? A little baffling. What cases in testing necessitated this change?) An impactful e is a great idea! A debuff attached to a projectile is awfully un-dragonladylike. Gating stats could work, but why not tie it to ult level like it used to be?

If her team secures dragons she gets the buff, even if she wasn't a part of the kills. That being said, she will not survive in top lane with the current meta.

I honestly wish they had gone with the change they were testing on the PBE about a week ago.

Dragonborn Dragons defeated by Shyvana or her team grant her extra boons:

Infernal Drake: Converts (5 / 7.5 / 10)% of damage dealt into true damage. Mountain Drake: Takes (10 / 15 / 20)% less damage from Monsters and Towers Cloud Drake: Grants (5 / 10 / 15)% Slow Resistance Ocean Drake: Grants (5 / 10 / 15)% Cooldown Reduction

Yes, this would have been broken AF, but it would have given her a clear and unique purpose. DRAGON CONTROL, at pretty much all costs!!

Yes I agree a bit op but couldve easily been fixed towards present gameplay!

Very well written thread with well thought out and presented arguments. Take my upvote.

The worst nerf of that entire update is making her size increase by 16% in dragon form at max rank... like what the hell, she's a melee champion that relies on dodging skillshots fired at her at point blank, especially CC ones otherwise she no longer exists in a fight. And they're making it harder to achieve once again...

last time they increased her hitbox size by 33% her winrate dropped by 4%...

The changes were intended as a buff and will be revisited if she ends up too weak.

I hope they end up as a buff, but I think Riot isn't realizing just how much she relied on that innate tankiness to survive. Keep in mind the only thing that got a damage buff was her dragon-form E. Everything else was either nerfed or left alone in terms of damage. Shyvana has to duel her target. She got a single, uninterruptible lunge at a significant cost to her durability. She either does enough damage to kill her target, or she dies. They took away tankiness and gave her a single damage nuke. Not sure if it makes up for it.

How I view all Shyvanna changes.

Did this make AP Shyvanna stronger?

     Yes : It's a buff
     No, and it's weaker : It's a nerf
No, and her power didn't change : Too long didn't read.

While your post comes across as flame, you make some valid points that I want to clarify:

  1. Shyvana's new passive does make her much more feast or famine. Either you get the dragons, or you basically do not have a passive. This was discussed as trade off for her other changes.
  2. Shyvana's bonus stat passive was not ever upgraded to a point where it would affect the taking of dragons until level 6. She should be able to kill a dragon at level 5, but dragons do some serious damage now, and I'm not sure how she will be able to sneak it anymore without some kind of sustain (this isn't really a a change from last patch, but now the dragons matter so much to her).
  3. I never found her flame trail to be that useful to be honest. It never lasted on the ground long enough to do anything. That being said, the size increases of burnout seem mediocre. They don't seem to get much bigger than her model. In fact, they both seem to stay the same.
  4. Her ultimate was never about doing damage. It was about getting into position. Even hitting your target wasn't a big deal. It is an incredibly slow ability. I am a little sad however that some of the clutch wall hops in top lane over broader terrain will be unobtainable.
  5. Her flame breath got a MASSIVE, and I mean MASSIVE buff in dragon form, but her human form paid a pretty heavy price for it. Scaling is gone (not that she built AP anyway)
  6. Shyvana growing in size with her ultimate is technically a nerf. She is more likely to get hit by skill shots and without the guaranteed stats she used to have in dragon form, I don't think she will last very long. 350 bonus health is meh (this is at max rank), especially when you can't multiply it by innate resistance anymore.

To sum up my opinion:

I'm not quite sure how this will play out in terms of balance. On one hand they buffed her dive a little and gave her a large nuke on her dragon form. But she paid for it quite heavily, and I would argue that the circumstances in which you benefit from the 'buffs' are so specific and rare in occurrence that the 'nerfs' (which are noticeable 100% of the time in the form of reduced tankiness) will likely overshadow her changes. I would normally say "either she makes it to her target and kills them with burst or she dies because she can't reach them and is less tanky" but that would imply that they modified her damage pattern in some way. The only damage change they made was on her dragon-form E, which is very circumstantial.

For a mini-rework that was supposed to return some power to Shyvana and cover up some of the major weaknesses, they did a good job bridging the gap with her uninterruptible ultimate, however I think they may have opened up a new weakness in the form of unreliability of her passive. Given how high burst damage is in the current meta, I highly doubt she will benefit from these changes in the immediate future.
