Why do people refuse to split push?

I am currently in silver 2 with a 58% winrate, and I attribute it to split pushing most of my games. I tell people most games that we should split push, especially when we are behind. If I am doing bad, my pressence in the teamfight will be very little, and instead of losing tempo by having to spend time running to another lane, why not just keep pushing, and try to pull some aggression off your team? In fact, I feel like it's one of the strongest defensive tactics in the game when your team isn't doing so hot. The thing is, people in silver rarely know how to properly stop a well executed split. So why do I get so much reluctance from my team when I suggest it? Thoughts?

I have no idea. I see this same phenomenon constantly. IT's terrible to face a Tryndamere with summoner 12 and he's constantly shoving lane to inner turret and your top laner won't clear more than one wave (aka the minions freeze at where your outer turret used to be) and then tryndamere tps in again and takes your inner turret. rinse and repeat until your inhib is gone.

I run into the opposite problem. Everyone wants to split push when we're ahead and wind up getting picked off and letting the team back into the game.

If you know how to split push and your team doesn't immediately 4v5 the other team, it's a good strat. But rarely do I see it work out in Bronze/Silver.

I played a game as riven, fed their illaoi HARD. I said to my team "im useless in a team fight, so im just going to split push the whole game. They argued with me constantly when i would tell them to go push the opposite lane. In fact they would try to lure the team to my lane to sabotage me. Long story short, i took 8/9 towers and 2/2 inhibs by myself and we won. Their fed illaoi was always chasing me, causing her fed self to be essentially useless as she was rarely in a team fight. It wasnt until i took the first inhib that they finally agreed to listen to me. My point is, had i been in team fights, so would have illaoi, and we would have surely lost due to how fed she was. And that's why those kiddos will always be stuck in "elo hell".

I don't understand why so many Silver players wanted to play ARAM, but I just worked around it during my short time there. I played Varus and Ziggs in Silver last season since their waveclear, CC and poke worked extremely well in that environment.

Though, I will say that it might be because they don't know how to splitpush properly or don't trust their team not to engage and/or get caught before they are in position to threaten an objective.

I'm silver 2 with 56% winrate, formerly s1 but got demoted and am 23 lp away from promos. Only issue is my team doesn't apply pressure while I split so I'm collapsed on while they sit at like our mid lane tower. Personally I love splitting on my main Fiora more than teamfighting, and seeing as I win lane 90% of the time, I WANT to split. But my team just can't seem to do anything without me there.
