Won 5/10 placement games and went from earnt S5 last season to placed B5 this season

I am just curious why the system is putting me back down in B5 when I had worked my way from B5 to S5 at the end of last season.

If the system is intentionally designed to do total-resets, then ok, but if this is an unintentional by-product of the design, then not so neat.
