A Tale of One Series
So I'm playing ranked tonight and have just gotten into my promotional series from Silver to Gold. I lost the first game, admittedly because my team and I collectively failed, but came back and won my second with flying colors. I decided to take a little bit of a break and "catch 'em all" (Mystic ftw biotches) before continuing. A day later I return refreshed and ready to ascend into the elo heaven(ish) that is Gold and above. I enter champion select and find that my team mates are a 4-man premade who apparently haven't lost in 8 games. This gives me some hope that the game will be a good one. As I prepare to lock in my Akali top lane, the unthinkable happens: my client turns an evil shade of white.
I sit there for a strong 5 minutes hoping that it's just my computer (to which this has never happened in the 7 odd years of my League career) having a virtual spasm and everything will be fine. However, much to my dismay, I decide to close out my client and reopen. I know what this means: one more loss on my promotional record. So, I am now 1-2 and slightly tilted from this unfortunate, unforeseeable occurrence, but I decide to press on and finish out my series strong. The next game goes as smoothly as ever: I get mouth-fed and my team plays out the game excellently.
2-2.
Feeling optimistic, albeit still a little weary, I queue up for another game in hopes that it will go as well as the previous one and I will soon have a golden yellow crest on my summoner profile to match my banner border. The champion select screen opens, I see that I have gotten mid (my best role), and I am excited to play my favorite little demon child with a teddy bear for a best friend (yeah I'm one of those...). I lock in my Fizz ban, and I am ready to play my best. As I chat with my team about bans and such, the screen suddenly goes black, I hear my headphones go deaf, and I am surrounded in the utter silence that follows a power outage.

No more than 3 seconds later, the power comes back on and the technology to which my hands are glued springs back to life. I enter my Windows password and type my League login faster than I ever have before, hoping and praying that this doesn't mean what I already know it means. As I click on the "Leagues" tab of my summoner profile, I am filled with a rush of emotions. Rage, frustration, and sadness are the most prominent in the beginning. However, as I stare at my brand new, 30-minute dodge timer, these three are quickly overcome by a new feeling: confusion.
Why has there not been any parameter put in place to prevent something like this from happening? What could be implemented to eradicate this unfortunate situation that I am sure happens quite often to people with low-grade computers/internet (although perhaps without such marvelous timing)? It took me maybe 2 minutes to think of an option that seems feasible:
- Whenever someone exits the client during champion select, whether by his/her own will or another force's, the champion select is frozen and a timer begins (let's say 1-minute for theoretical purposes).
- The summoner who left the champion select now has 1 minute to reopen his/her client and log in. When he/she does so, an option is presented: "Do you wish to rejoin this champion select blah blah blah. Select Yes or No." The next step is obvious: Either the summoner hits yes and is reunited with his/her team at champion select, or he/she hits no and the champion select is closed immediately (triggering the summoner's deserter timer, LP loss, etc.).
Now, let's say this summoner hits yes, rejoins the champion select, and the client is interrupted once more. Well, clearly he/she is either a troll or just has really bad luck. However, there need not be a third chance. If someone's client is crashing consistently enough that it happens within two instances of the same champion select, then he/she has some troubleshooting to do and should not be in the game anyway. On the occasion that the first crash was just a fluke, or the electricity decided to randomly flicker for no apparent reason, this would save the summoner from potential, and quite probable, frustrations similar to those of mine above. Surely, the community of summoners in the League of Legends is willing to give up just one extra minute of his or her time to help solve an issue as unfortunate as this.
The truth is, you never really consider this a problem until it happens to you. I know I didn't, but now that it has, I am desperate for a change.

Tl;dr: I'm an angry nerd who lost a promo series 2 games early because my client was abruptly interrupted twice by outside forces while sitting in champion select. League needs some way to prevent dodges from happening by people with no intentions of dodging.
