First of all you need to see with what your champion abilities are scaling, if he is more with attack damage, ability power, mana or health points. Then you must check your ulti if is single target dmg, or aoe. Most champions have 2 to 3 core items that you must buy. Rest of them are situational depends what they have on their team. They have more ap buy MR like:
. They all AD team good think to rush
. Bruisers needs some dmg and tanky items. Tanks only tanky items, maybe one dmg item. Etc. In the end you can also check other builds from sites. Most of champions have one build that is very effective.
this is how u should think as its easier for your kind:
MY CHARACTER AD I BUILD AD
MY CHARACTER AP I BUILD AP
MY CHARACTER TANK I BUILD TANK
its much easier for your kind to remember it this way.
You should always be ready and willing to try new things and see what works. Experiment for yourself. You can look on the internet on mediums such as Mobafire, TeamSoloMid, and the Curse family of sites that feature pro builds and the works. These are typically for inspiration. Eventually, you will get to the point where you look at a build and immediately understand what tactic the players are going for with that build.
For instance,
can be built in a variety of ways. You can build him AD, AD with Tank, AP, AP with AD, AP with AD, etc... How did I come up with these? Researching his abilities and how they scale. Tryndamere's Q scales off a combination of his available rage and AP. his W isn't scaling, it's just used as CC/Attack down. Tryndamere's E scaless off his total AP plus his bonus AD. When you look at the scaling of abilities and how they work, you start to come up with plenty of ideas:
AP Tryndamere
AD Tryndamere w. Tank:
AD/AP Hybrid Tryndamere:

just a few ways I would take Tryndamere into a game depending on what I was going for in terms of tactics. Note that I only posted builds that aren't too popular among most tryndamere players.
