How does placements work exactly?

Hey everyone! been playing league seriously since about Season 4. First time i played league I got placed in Silver 5, honestly i have no idea how considered at the time i was extremely new to the game and honestly I was bad and dropped into bronze. Then 2015 cam around and I knew ALOT more about the game and did placements, and got dropped into Bronze 5, i was upset, but it was what i expected, I had done terribly the season before and had gone 6/4 in my placements. I spent that season climbing and by the reset happened I made it to Silver 4 (and just saying bronze IS hell, everyone rages and gives up the minute someone gives first blood, i hate it there). ANYHOW i just did my placements last night (6/4 -_-, two AFK's in each game I lost) and I expected maybe Bronze 2 or 1, but NOPE. It places me right back in bronze along with my Duo partner. I checked the average MMR on Lolking and it even said i was at a consistent silver level so I just dont understand, can anyone explain how i got pretty much put on the bottom half of bronze?

See, at the beginning of every season, people get to reset their ranks. However, from placements, the highest one can achieve is Plat one, meaning everyone from Diamond 5 and above are all cramped to Plat 1 and below, possibly shifting everyone a full tier below where they were. As time goes by, when people will climb back to where thye belong .

Thank you very much! like that makes me feel alot better. It felt super discouraging because i felt that I had improved so much from a year ago only to be put back where i was last year. Like I had honestly considered stopping playing ranked if I actually hadn't improved at all according to their standards

Glad i helped. If you believed that you've made progress on your game, keep playing and you will see the climb.
