I've read many discussions that are related to this question. What I want to mainly understand is how placement matches work. Does your final rank end up being influenced by how well you did in those matches or if you just won/lost those matches? There seems to be a mix of answers.
Mysticman892 votesIn-game performances has never influenced your placement, and this is unlikely to change, just since in-game performance is pretty subjective and basically amounts to how well you can facilitate destroying the enemy nexus, and the best indicator of that is win/lose.

LCK Apdo1 votesIt depends on your performance through out the placement matches. As an example: http://eune.op.gg/summoner/userName=LCK%20Apdo I ended up season 7 in gold 5/4. After placements I got placed into Platinum 2 with Plat1/Diamond5 MMR.
If you will play with outstanding performance, beat higher ranked players, your MMR will rise and you will get placed into rank you belong to.
Some players played poorly at placements, they were Platinum 1 season 7 and ended up in Platinum 3 after 4 wins and 6 looses. They lost to higher MMR players, that's why they didn't drop much. If you would get placed into game, where are lower MMR's than you and you would loose, it would drop you significantly. If you play amazing against higher MMR players, you will get rewarded and can get placed even higher than you ended up last season.
