ARAM is made to be F-U-N.

noun 1. something that provides mirth or amusement: A picnic would be fun. 2. enjoyment or playfulness: She's full of fun.

Neither of that definition is ANYWHERE CLOSE what ranked game is. Keep that tryharding bs out of the only way to untilit yourself. Pls, shoot this idea down asap.

Game: "a competitive activity involving skill, chance, or endurance on the part of two or more persons who play according to a set of rules, usually for their own amusement or for that of spectators"

Well, gee. By the logic, apparently a ranked game actually isn't even a game.

I really don't understand why people are seemingly offended by the idea of ranked ARAM. If you're not interested in the competitive aspect, just don't play ranked. It's not like ranked would suddenly make the normal queue disappear.

First of all, playing random champion and random team comps prove nothing. While on SR you can outplay enemy team comp by rotation, objective control etc - on Howling Abyss you can do nothing if you just get shity team comp. LITERALLY NOTHING. I don't complain about it, part of ARAM's charm - but losing game in champ select based on random team comps is just dumb.

Sure, you sometimes lose in champ select, but the same thing happens in other games with RNG, like card games. Occasionally you lose purely because the other guy had better draws. How well someone adapts to the situation the rest of the time is what determines skill.

If you get 5 champions that doesn't scale well and don't bring much damage and enemy team gets proper team comp - how's that suppose to be good enviroment for ranked games? I don't see how you can be ranked based on total randomness of ARAM.

Same way you can be ranked in SR despite the occasional afk, feeder, troll, etc. Rank is based on a number of games over a period of time, so the impact of luck (such as terrible team comps) is minimized.

Slow down. You miss one thing:

on SR you have 100% control over what you will play. Drafting is a skill as well and being able to draft properly is important thing. Before you say it - I know you control only your own champion really, but for me as support main it means checking what team needs and adjusting my pick to fill the gap we need. People in low elo queue up for ranked with mindset "Im gonna play this champion no matter what". Which ends with team comps like Yasuo top, Nidalee jungle, Zed mid and Vayne ADC.

So if you can't draft, you won't climb as fast and you will have to relay on luck, yes. But the point here is to BECOME BETTER and IMPROVE YOUR SKILLS. Which includes drafting.

So making ARAM ranked makes no sense, since you have no control over drafting, there is no macro game, no objectives, nothing. All there is in ARAM is teamfighting, which is ONLY ONE PART of skillset you should have to climb.

ARAM doesn't have drafting per se, but team comp is still important. Rerolls and builds are things to consider during champ select. Maybe you shouldn't go AP Rek'Sai when your team already has three Mages. Maybe you should reroll that Jinx because your team has no magic damage. There's certainly places to "become better and improve your skills" before the game starts.

More importantly, there's no reason ARAM has to reflect the same skillset as SR. Even currently, SR rank doesn't reflect a player's skill at League in general, but specifically a player's skill on SR. Hell, there's been an ongoing discussion this entire season whether someone's dynamic SR rank even reflects their solo SR rank. If it can be reasonably argued that two queues on the same map can have different skillsets, why must queues on two different maps have the same skillset?

Ok, let's go step by step here.

"ARAM doesn't have drafting per se, but team comp is still important. Rerolls and builds are things to consider during champ select. So, you reroll Jinx...and you got Talon. There goes your magic damage and your point.

Like you mentioned, ARAM doesn't have drafting...soooo...your skill for drafting good team is gone as well. You can be ADC main...sorry, I meant brainless monkey Harmless joke, for those who are breaking their keyboards, racing to show their rage and still be good at "drafting" in ARAM. And still, even with rerolls you have ZERO control over your team comp, since you have no idea what will you get. Point about builds is also invalid, since people are doing those silly AP Reksai, Machinegun Lulu etc build on SR, it's not like you can buy AP items on Reksai only on ARAM, right?

"More importantly, there's no reason ARAM has to reflect the same skillset as SR. The thing is, ARAM doesn't have "skillset" you must have to succed. It's based on randomness of "champ select" and ONE skill - teamfighting. Drafting is gone. Bans are gone. Objective control is gone. Macro game is gone. Rotations are gone. Every single skill you need on SR is gone on ARAM besides teamfights. And that skill goes down to mindless fights whenever people are alive.

That being said, I love ARAMs, I play a lot of them, just to have fun and mess around with funny builds or just waste some time when I wait for friends to play normals with. ARAMs don't reflect any skills, thus making competitive ladder for those game is pointless. How can you climb, since you don't need skills to play ARAMs? It's not like you can improve your shotcalling to be better on ARAMs...or learn how to control the map on Howling Abyss. It's not like you can figure out "META" for ARAMs and proper bans for that map...you literally can do NOTHING to improve at playing ARAMs, besides being better on champion you randomly play (and that may even be champion from rotation which you never played, or champion you got from Hextech crafting that you never played before). There is nothing on ARAM that creates competitive enviroment, needed for Ranked ladder system.

The way you climb on SR is simple - you are getting better at the game. You start to realize how to control the map, how to contest and control objectives, you figured out when you can do something and when you can't, you work on you warding game and your knowledge about matchups - you learn which champions work good against champions enemy team picked and you realize how to use certain comps or how to counter them. You simply get better at League of Legends. Meanwhile on ARAM you have none of that, so there is nothing to improve at while playing ARAMs (And before you make mistake in understanding this statement, I mean - THERE IS NOTHING TO IMPROVE WHILE PLAYING ARAMS. Has nothing to do with practicing champion that can help you later on SR), it's just mindless fighting for fun.

So, you reroll Jinx...and you got Talon. There goes your magic damage and your point.

How does that invalidate my point? It's still ARAM, champs are still random, and there's still times when luck just isn't with you. Rerolls depend on risk-reward analysis, balancing the strength of your current champ, availability of other champs, and potential strength to be gained/lost. It's the ARAM-equivalent of drafting to fit your teamcomp in SR. Sometimes it works out; sometimes it's not enough.

Point about builds is also invalid, since people are doing those silly AP Reksai, Machinegun Lulu etc build on SR, it's not like you can buy AP items on Reksai only on ARAM, right?

You, the reader; not you, my teammate, or you, the guy I'm discussing this with. Having no control over teammates regardless of game mode was already acknowledged, remember?

Bans are gone.

Not necessarily. For normal ARAM, sure, since it's the equivalent of Blind Pick. It should be possible to toss in a banning phase before champs are distributed for a "draft pick" version of ARAM.

Every single skill you need on SR is gone on ARAM besides teamfights.

Alright, sure. Let's assume that teamfighting really is the only thing that matters in ARAM. Even then, teamfighting is a skillset by itself. Posturing, harassing, engaging, target selection, positioning, skill usage. There's a lot of things that make up a teamfight, and it's undeniable that ARAM tests teamfighting prowess more rigorously than SR. After all, teamfighting makes up the bulk of ARAM, right?

you figured out when you can do something and when you can't,

You do this in ARAM.

your knowledge about matchups

And this, somewhat.

you realize how to use certain comps or how to counter them.

Definitely this though.

you literally can do NOTHING to improve at playing ARAMs, besides being better on champion you randomly play

As stated, there's a number of things you can do to improve at ARAM. Are there fewer ways to possibly improve than in SR? Sure. But claiming that there's no areas for improvement is just absurd. You're comparing high-level serious SR play with low-level casual ARAM play. It's like claiming running is easier than swimming because Olympic-level swimming is more complicated than toddlers racing. Hell, the same issue applies to low-level SR play compared to high-level SR play. Just because a Bronze player isn't aware of places to improve doesn't mean that there isn't anything to improve. (Sidenote: please don't misunderstand that as an insult.)

The way you climb on SR is simple - you are getting better at the game. ... You simply get better at League of Legends.

Complete tangential, but that's not exactly true. You climb on SR by getting better at SR, not League of Legends. Some of the things you learn transfer to other parts of League; some don't. For example, "warding game" is entirely useless outside of SR because wards only exist on SR.
