So sick of rotating game modes. MAKE URF STANDARD

Aubig··4 votes·1,398 views

I have officially had my fill of these damn game modes constantly switching in and out. Seriously, practically everything else has been ripped off of Dota, why doesn't Riot take another cue from them and keep preferred game modes active instead of constantly switching them out? I know they wanna keep their oh-so-sacred Ranked play populated, but too many players have forgotten that this is a game; a damn fun one at times when the conditions are right. It's so disappointing that my favorite mode URF and even ARURF, has been resigned to events that only come around a couple times a year at best. Seriously, what does it really cost to make it a standard game mode? From what I've seen, it's widely considered to be a preferred mode for most players. I know the hardcore ranked-only crowd probably won't touch it, but that's their choice. Does Riot really think they're gonna lose a lot of ranked players to the scary, dreaded evils of URF? Let your players make a choice, instead of strong-arming them into your own preferred game modes. A lot of us have spent money on your game, you should respect us enough to let us play the content in a way that we most enjoy.

I'm going to take what I said in another post and put it here:

As much as I love URF, I'd have to disagree with you. URF is a gamemode that has, time and time again, shown to be one of the most rapidly-decaying gamemodes, playrate wise. It's a gamemode that should only be really brought back every now and then.

Sure, there are people that play URF, and only URF, while it's out. But the reason that's a bad idea is because it splits the playerbase. What about the people that play competitively? What about the people that play ARAMs? What about the people that play ordinary normal games? Adding URF permanently to that mix could seriously disrupt the playerbase negatively.

Not only that, it requires Riot to keep another gamemode in check every patch, to make sure nothing breaks. And, as the nature of URF is, is EXTREMELY difficult to do, due to Riot not only having to balance the normal game, but also having to balance a variant of the game that is designed to be broken at its core.

Summary: URF only really works as a treat, something to be brought back every now and then, releasing URF permanently would split the playerbase, and Riot would have to put too many resources into balancing it every patch.

My only gripe is that the champion trading was disabled this time around. Did it ever get said -why-?

See, I felt the same way. They did say that, due to the lack of testing before it launched, a bug blocked trading. They also said it would be fixed for next ARURF, so that's always good!

Your full of it. This comment is hypocrisy at it's finest. You mentioned the other modes, aram, and normals, and there's nothing wrong with those so how exactly is urf the culprit exactly? Your point is? You have yet to pin point how it "disrupts playerbase negatively". Iv'e seen gamemodes in other games ex. overwatch and having modes gives players more options. But apparently having one in league "hurts the playerbase" good one. All urf does is offer more options to what type of style you want to play the game, I think your just triggered and want to lick riots behind to whatever decision they make and try to justify it whatever way you can, this time being talking bs.

Now I know you don't know what your talking about. Urf is meant to be broken, that's why people freaking play it. It hardly requires balancing at all. Im actually a little annoyed that certain ruins wern't available, I actually felt this recent urf was too balanced. My q times where almost instant, more than normals, aram or any other game mode. Believe it or not people want to actually have fun playing this game and urf is one of the only ways towards achieving that, especially in this season.

Summary: your salty that someone is calling out riot, having game modes don't "split players bases" as almost every other game in existence nothing negatives comes out of it and it gives players more options, urf is meant to be broken, it is why people play the mode so it would hardly require balancing.

Argument 1: "Why are the other gamemodes not an issue?"

There is nothing wrong with the currently available modes due to how little the actual game's rules change: ARAM is just norms with only one lane and random champions, there's virtually no balance changes besides a few items gone, and Twisted Treeline is just 3v3 norms with an altar gimmick. URF, on the other hand, requires a lot more work to keep in check, due to the fundamental design of URF, being for things to be overpowered.

Argument 2: "Playerbases are never split from variety."

A good example of splitting a playerbase is Evolve. Microtransaction hell aside, you know how many modes that had? Due to all the modes in the game, the little playerbase they did have was split up across all of them; some people only played Arena, some only played Hunt, some only played Rescue, etc. This resulted in VERY long queue times for games, due to players not playing the same modes as eachother.

Overwatch can get away with this because of 2 reasons: The gamemodes are switched up from time to time, and almost all of the gamemodes are fundamentally the same exact thing as the normal game, with little difference from Quick Play, with the exception of the event gamemodes and Deathmatch.

Argument 3: "URF is meant to be broken."

Sure, people play URF because it's broken, but as broken as it is, it STILL needs balancing, due to some champions being beyond broken. A LOT of champions have actually had tuning in their kit done to make them good/less OP in URF. People complained how OP a lot of champions are the first time around, and Riot realized this. Some champs have been balanced to be good, Like Aurelion Sol, for example.

Argument 4: "My queue times are A LOT shorter than other gamemodes!"

Your queue times are instant because almost nobody is playing other gamemodes at that time. URF makes other gamemode queue times spike HEAVILY, which further proves my point that it splits the playerbase.

Argument 5: "You're just salty and kissing Riot's ass for every decision that they make."

Salty? Because Riot is getting called out? I've called out Riot myself, multiple times. Riot often does deserve to be called out. The Orange Essence situation, of the disenchant OE being too low? Sure, call them out, it's something that needs to be discussed. Lore retcon? Sure, go for it. Attempting to remove item sets from the new client (Which, discussing it did work out!)? Please, discuss. But this is not one of those times. While I love URF, I don't think it would work good as a permanent gamemode.

You're just angry about Riot removing URF, which is why you've tried to insult me throughout your entire post.

Riot actually has the statistics to show that this is exactly the case - the playerbase drops drastically after URF goes on for a while.

Thing is most people also get really bored and frustrated with the mode, especially arurf cause its random and you can get ten games in a row with piss poor champs vs morgana and never get to try out what you want. Not everyone finds it as fun as you do,maybe for a day or two,but after a few weeks of it being on i dont think anyone except the hardcore urf fans would play it,its really just not that fun playing vs some bs champs when you randomly get anivia or something

URF would be terrible as a constant mode.

It's fun for about a week, maybe a little more. Bang out some games, enjoy the gimmicks, have a quick laugh at the gameplay.

The problem is that it pretty rapidly falls off. It just gets.. bland and boring. Everyone doing everything all the time with zero consequences removes most of the pacing, strategy, and strategic elements from the game. It's proven to, as another poster said, chew through its playerbase SUPER fast; the amount of people queing for it drops dramatically very fast.

More than that, one of the big things which keeps Urf interesting is that it's not always there. If it were always there almost no one would play it, with it coming occasionally it keeps it fresh for most people and ensures that it has decent que times.
