How is a player supposed to climb?

So i went on a losing streak and my mmr went to shit, like low 1300s in gold 5, so my question is when you hit that point you are matched with low silver players and vs high silver and an occasional gold 5 like me, every game since after my mmr dropped our team had a lower mmr and the opponent had a higher mmr from anywhere between 40 to 200.

then i go on a win streak to my promos, fail and lose two more landing at the same position but my mmr is now normal, but now im getting matched vs gold 2 - 1 on the opp team and silver 4 -1 on mine and winning these games still gives me 17 lp and if i lose i lose 21??

I fail to understand your methods because theres no way you need to make it this hard to climb one division in gold 5, please help me understand.

You basically need a win streak of the same magnitude to cancel out the mmr damage, which can be a pain sometimes. I recently had a whopping 8 game streak of afk related losses and I'm less than thrilled about it and the kind of teams I've been getting now, but I climbed up once, so I know I can do it again.

Just a matter of keeping at it and avoiding tilt to have even bigger loss streaks.

Climbing is just tougher than it used to be in general.

Gold currently feels more like climbing through plat in previous seasons. It used to be that anyone with decent mechanical skills could hit plat, but now you have to play certain champions who are better and reliable relative to those who are not.

Thats how it will be the more the game evolves and more info becomes available on sites like youtube and all these coaching free content people will continue to get better like every game and the standard wont cut it in 1-2 years.

Winning & losing streaks are a well-behaved part of random numbers, both how many there should be and how many of each length there should be.

For example, in a history of 100 games, what kind of winning/losing streaks should we expect to see?

There should be 17 2-win/loss streaks, 8 runs of 3, 4 of length 4, two five long, and one each strings of six and seven.
