The government will be cracking down on the purchase of lootboxes with money if anything, not actual lootboxes. Very little will change in terms of what Riot focuses on.

Here's what will change;

You wont be able to buy lootboxes or keys with money anymore.

They will still exist to obtain through the other means. Skins will still be made and will still be buyable.

Lootboxes will still exist as will anything you can get with lootboxes. You just wont be able to buy them with money, only in-game currencies.

uh, but we can't do that though

you can only buy them with monies

and the key drop rate is low (I often have anywhere from 3-6 chests sitting in my collections because I have no keys; im not the only one to suffer this)

If you can only get them with money, then how is there a key drop rate at all?

riot randomly gives them to you occasionally, but they don't seem to drop, or be given out very often, so the only other way to obtain them, is monies

But that whole line of reasoning is moot.

I replied to someone saying, "When the government cracks down on lootboxes..."

Lootboxes themselves are not the problem nor is it likely to be removed any time in the near future. The ability to purchase a digital gamble-box with real money is the problem and is what lawmakers are seeking to restrict.

So IF laws start popping up restricting that, lootboxes will still exist. They just wont be purchasable with real money and you'll only be able to get them through in-game means. The lootbox system will still be there, it will just be changed slightly. A lootbox reward system is too good of a motivator to get people to play to pass up.

not really

the hextech chests are somewhat easy to get; the keys are far harder (since Riot gives them out at weird intervals)

in any given year, you are able to get (with the current champion pool) 144 hextech chests max (barring you get an S if you own that champion)

keys however; you maybe get 1 key per month if you are lucky (this is off my own personal experience...sometimes I get less lucky and get a key every few months)

that means, of those possible 144 boxes (assuming you get 1 key per month from riot and don't acquire them any other way); you are left with 132 and then once the new year/season starts; your chest progress resets and you can earn them again

the box to key ratio is beyond stupid; most people end up with far more boxes than keys and then will either a: buy them, or b) use event tokens to get them

the real question is not what will happen to the loot boxes; because we all know they will still exist as you say...but what about the keys?

will players still be able to use money to buy rp, to open a lootbox

or will the option to buy both lootboxes and key be removed from the store entirely? thus forcing players to have to rely on the rng of Riot alone

You should have gotten 20 key fragments with trials tokens lol. You still got that many chests leftover? I get every chest on spawn and open within 2 weeks.

but if I do that then I get the reverse problem

too many keys with no chests (you'd be surprised how weird my luck can be)

if I have too much of one thing I don't have enough of something else (and can't seem to get it because reasons)

Weren't we supposed to be getting like 2 per month or something?

Also, where is hexa (i guess 12 man games can't be sustained) ascension 1forall bloodmoon ?????????

Are the queues that depleted that we can't have for fun modes no more? If it comes down to it I'd rather have RGM and delete 3v3. I guess majority would.
