How am I supposed to fight against a Yorick?

First time posting on here, been a lurker for a bit. I'm low elo, recently entered rank flex. I'm not a good player and I definitely don't consider myself even average. Probably will get downvoted asking for help since it seems like that's the norm. Don't know how to lane against Yorick.. Regardless, I'm going to ask anyways. How the heck do I play against Yorick? Whenever I'm vsing one, they always usually seem to be really good players since I don't think too many people play him, but that's beside the point.

How am I supposed to prevent him from pushing lane? I can't even push a little bit or I'm toasty mc-roasty because I get trapped get ghoul swarmed. Even if I try to just clear lane, he'll trap me when I attempt and just take a large chunk of my hp :/ I try to stay with minions, but I'm just bad I guess. I really don't know what to do. [sg-soraka] Everytime I go against a Yorick, I always just feel like I'm free damage, I try to poke, I try to freeze lane, I simply don't know. And even then, he can take the tower really quickly once he gets items, I can't even stay under my own tower because it just gets slapped to death. I realize that maybe, it's simple fixes that could ease my pain, but I'm just not getting any better. Maybe it's a case of me not being able to 'git gud', but I dunno. Help me out here?

Since his minions (incorrectly) take 50% damage from AoE, what you'll need to do is buy more AS than usual. Unfortunate if your champ isn't supposed to, but it's the only option.

How people refuse to accept that this is a bug when it isn't on the wiki, in the client, or in his spotlight baffles me. It's left over from his previous iteration, when he couldn't get minions as easily and they were his only source of damage, and doesn't belong.

ok yoricks Q heals him and its doubled if he is below 50% hp and does bonus physical damage

his passive plus minions he Qs can allow him to summons ghouls. his W is a skill shot that slows you and makes his ghouls/maiden attack you. his E is his lil death ring. the amount of autos it takes to kill it scales with points in ability. his ULT does magic damage and if yorick is damaging you himself while maiden is targeted on you he does % hp damage as magic damage.

ideally you want to be able to all in him with burst and have some sustain, you dont really want to fight him when his ULT is up or when he has used W to make ghouls attack you.

having a champ that can dash over/through his E is nice cuz you can get out of it quickly or use it a way to engage him with it down. ( i have played yorick and vs him alot, i main maokai top... i typically win lane vs yorick. i can use my W to a minion or to yorick to get out of his E ) sion/renekton have winning match ups vs him. slightly.

with ren you can sustain with Q heal , you can stun with W and dash with E. you are a lane bully who has upfront damage early. i believe tiamat rush would help with sustain plus aoe wave clear vs his push. ( could be good on sion too and go into titanic hydra )

he is gonna do alot of dps. this is were sustain in lane is key. he does physical damage and magic damage/magic %damage you will reduce alot of his damage if you dodge or bait his W

he will push lane, this also makes him go oom if he isnt careful and exposes him to ganks as he has no real escape outside of flash. so being able to take advantage of this is key.

as maokai in this match up i typically run grasp, bone plating , second wind(sometimes ill go conditioning but its not useful in lane vs him ) and revitalize. with null orb ( for his ult damage ) or mana flow ban so i can spam some skills too. and then transcendence so i get some free cdr

i will typically rush item 3751 into item 3010 then item 3211 these 3 gives me aoe damage + hp + hp regen with mr + mana with the passive that gives me hp/mana back. so depending on what im facing as a team over all ... will depend on which i finish 1st. alot of ad sunfire. some magic damage but not a lot of poke then mask. if alot of poke then spirit visage. another item i like vs him early is item 3025 giving me aoe slow, armor, cdr . and empowered autos after an ability.

as sion your issue is wave clear. so item 3751 into item 3077 would be good. some how you need to get cdr in your build so item 3024 item 3067 will help im sure a item 3800 would be fine vs him and if you need help pushing lanes back vs him item 3512

Try Mordekaiser Mordekaiser since his W - Harvester of Sorrow heals from pets for the same amount as from champions or monsters (i.e. when used on Yorick's ghouls, the heal will be for the full amount as opposed to 25% effectiveness when harvesting minions).

Try playing Yorick for a bit. See how others play against him. This could give you some ideas on how its done if looked at objectively.

A few things to note is...

  1. do not build just tank unless you are nasus pretty much. With his Maiden out (his ulti) every ghoul grave will instantly rise, and if the maiden targets you then you will be hit not only with Yoricks damage, but with a percentage of your max hp as well.

  2. Keep an eye on how many ghoul graves he has up. He needs 3 (he gets 1 for every 12 minions that die around him, and 1 for when he kills a minion with Q) to summon, and can have a max of 4 at a time.

  3. Mobile champions work well against him. Anyone who has a self dash makes things rough for him in the sense of him killing you..... however to shut him down you will need to normally play someone who matches his tankiness and damage. Irelia, Shen with Titanic Hydra (another potential tanky item mostly champ), Nasus... Sion if going a more damage build rather than tanky works well as well. Garen with a bruiser build and Darius work great vs him.

  4. Dont be afraid of him. Be aware of him, but if you are playing someone like Sion, then E and Q him and he will be locked down long enough for his wall to go down. Farm up and wait for a gank until you feel you know his power spikes a bit better.

  5. his E (the aoe slow damage area) does %max hp magic damage. Another reason to not build just tanky. You need damage mixed in or else he will just chunk you.

  6. his Q heals a small amount and he normally gets Grasp and Demolish. Try to kill minions asap if he is around the turret, but that usually wont be until level 7 or 8 unless he knows you are at a disadvantage.

Go Ornn . Get Sorcery > Manaflow Band somewhere in your runes so that you don't have to leave lane.

Clear your waves. Let Yorick be the aggressor.

When he tries to farm, W and Q him but save E for outing.

Eventually Yorick will be half health, but pretty confident in what he can do. About then you should be close to 6. Let him think he can kill you. Get into the duel, but don't use E. When Yorick uses his Circle to trap you, he should be pretty low HP. Use E to break the first backwards, and as he pursues you, R him. You should be left with an easy kill on him that he can't mitigate. Ignite would also help.

If he dies, so do his minions, and Ornn can mitigate damage from Yorick whenever you don't just outright duel him.

Dodge is e, as it causes the ghouls to Target you, kill ghouls while they aren't targeted on you from e and then engage on him in an all in. Jax is a great match for him, your e blocks his ghoul hits as well as his autos and q, and then besides that jayce can work if you use your w attack speed buff to kill the ghouls, Tl:dr Don't fight him when he has ghouls, kill the ghouls then all in pre6
