Dynamic Queue: The Reason I'm Giving Up on League.

Hello,

First and foremost: don't just call me a bitch or say that I need to quit my bitching -- If it's happening to me, it's happening to tens of thousands of others. This is a serious problem that Riot needs to address and if you're just going to brush the problem under the rug, then Riot will lose tens of thousands of players.

Second: Riot openly stated that

the purists on the team have to be convinced [new queue system] is a net positive for the overall playerbase before [Riot] keep[s] this change

This just isn't true. The new queue times are astronomically long, and EVERYONE who "occasionally" played support is now forced into support 80+% of the time. Everyone I know who doesn't MAIN support is completely bailing on putting down 2ndary support, or even fill, out of fear of being support again and again and again.... and yet the system is still in place.

Third: I'm a one-trick pony top - Fiora - and a decent support/adc/jungle.

In the Old Queue system, I would get into the champ select and type "Hey all, I play Fiora top > Sup > Jung > ADC", and 99% of the time, I would get something I could play.

BUT NOW - I put Top as my primary, I'm sick of playing support, so I don't put that down, and then I put Jungle or "Bot" as my secondary. Now, I get Top mostly.

... I get excited, but then someone bans/picks Fiora right away.

Normally, I could just switch position because Pick order existed... Now I have to beg everyone to trade. If the enemy team picks Fiora right before it's my turn, and I'm 4th pick, then I can't trade with most people, and It's bannable if I just steal another spot.

Last but not least: Is it just me, or is almost every game horrifically unbalanced? By 10 minutes, the teams are usually 10-1, or 7-2. And it's just a snowball from there.

I played a lot with my friends who were mid-high bronze last season - I was low gold. I carried many of their games, and we had fun doing it...

... but then when I play Solo-Q, apparently the MMR thinks I'm Master-Level, and my team loses 30-3 in 15 minutes. This trend has happened for a week. I don't think I've been in a non-snowball game since I did some Solo-Q.

TL;DR: Queue times are outrageously long, I can't play the champions I want to play, it's bannable if I steal another slot, and, for whatever reason, most games anymore are so horribly unbalanced that the game just isn't fun anymore.

I know I'm not the only one. I simply can't be. There has to be thousands more who just aren't speaking up.

All I'm reading is that you don't want to support. So simply just put down Top and your other one that isn't Support. Get off of your pity party and lower your salt intake*[slayer-jinx-unamused]*

Or, the thousands of people who used to play support will just leave the game, and queue times will get longer and longer.

Think through what you say, because you're just not making any solutions to the problem by being an ass-hat.

I have experienced such a better experience since the dynamic queue was introduced. Even if you are last pick, you are guaranteed one of the two roles that you selected when you start your queue

Stopped reading when you say you only play one role.

So true as well as only one champion (which is also one that gets pretty regularly banned)

I relate to a lot of what you said. Bring teambuilder back.

I agree with a lot of what you said.

Riot's changing champion select did not, in any way, "benefit the overall player base".

What it did was change which part of the playerbase benefited from the system.

Let's say there are 4 groups of people playing League of Legends:

  1. Players who've been around for a long time and have a gigantic champion pool across all roles
  2. Players who started somewhat more recently and have a small champion pool. These champions are spread across all roles, so only ~2 champions in each role (maybe 3 or 4 in a main role).
  3. Players who started somewhat more recently and have a small champion pool. These champions are concentrated heavily on 1 or 2 roles, and these players cannot play the remaining 3 or 4 roles well at all.
  4. One-trick ponies

I'd guess the distribution of these groups was 20% - 40% - 35% - 5%.

Riot simply changed the system from benefiting people in group 2) to benefiting people in group 3). Group 1) players are fine in any system, while group 4 players don't benefit from either.

I think the change was REALLY unfair. The thing is, when I started this game and understood how ranked worked, I actively chose to become a group 2 player. It's not that the old system was right and the new one was wrong, they're both viable alternatives. The important thing is that the prior system already existed, and players practiced to be good in that system.

It's not my fault that some players wanted to only focus on 1 or 2 roles in the old system. They chose to take option 3) when option 2) was clearly more optimal. Riot is simply punishing everyone who optimally chose 2) and benefiting everyone who suboptimally chose 3).

Now I'm forced to focus explicitly on 2 roles if I want to perform optimally. I don't like that (I enjoyed playing mid and jungle, and didn't even mind playing support 1 in 20 games. Now I only play ADC and Top). All of my effort in to getting strong on picks in these off-roles is now pretty much meaningless as I'll almost never play them again. Instead I'm forced to practice all over again to add champions to my top-lane roster as it was small before. On top of that, when I put Top secondary I can still get it as first pick, while the enemy top primary gets to counterpick me. That could never happen in old champion select - a player could ALWAYS choose their main role, or make a pick in to an enemy role that was already chosen (e.g. if I was first pick I get my main role; if I was fourth pick and my main role was taken, there are 3-4 picks on the enemy team that I can see and pick in to).

I don't like the Dynamic queue changes. They punished me as a player when I tried to make optimally choices to fit in to the game. They punish me even making optimal choices now, as I don't get to enjoy the entire game but only 2 roles of it (and anyone who suggests changing it up is delusional - 99.99% of the playerbase is either not good enough or does not have the time to master more the minimum amount of roles in order to climb. If you're voluntarily doing more, you're voluntarily letting yourself rank lower than you should be).

That said, I'm adapting and trying to play the new way. I'm steadily adding champions to my top lane repertoire and even adding another ADC. It just feels brutal.

Dynamic Que does suck, though. At least in HotS, I can see what players Q'ed together so their system is actually subject to a modicum of scrutiny.

I agree with almost nothing you said but I do think team builder needs to be brought back

See I like the Primary/Secondary But hate the Duo/4man Qs

Also The issue is people are picking anything Secondary just to get into a match the throwing.

Oh and BTW its your fault for wanting to only play a OP top laner that will get banned a ton. She is broken and so is banned. Get over it.
