Will some of the older champs get their autoattacks updated?

SaltySunbear··30 votes·2,127 views

So I play lots of mid lane mages and I've noticed that some of the newer champs (Vel'Koz and Azir are who I'm thinking of primarily) have much smoother and easier to cs with AA while champs like Casseiopia and Anivia have horrific AA. Are there any plans to update these or are the AA considered a part of the champ's balance?

Velkoz and Azir just so happen to have "laser" type autoattacks as opposed to the projectile based autoattacks of all other ranged champions. They aren't blocked by windwall and have no travel time which makes it much easier to time last hits.

I believe AA's are a part of balance. Karthus Cassiopeia have low-cooldown abilities that they usually use to last hit instead. They want Anivia to have a hard time cs-ing levels 1-5 as a way to give opponents a window of opportunity to zone her before she hits 6 and inevitably takes control of the lane. Kalista's AA animation was much shorter on release, they increased it drastically so you actually have a chance to hit her before she starts hopping. Old Poppy had an atrocious AA frame and they intentionally left it clunky for fear that any change could break her.

And then we have possibly the worst AA animation in the game Vi

I find Malzahar 's autos completely awful for some reason.

They are. Because Malz only uses them to soften the minions up then the infection does all the last hitting for him.

Except early game his e is the most unreliable last hitting skill ever. You have to last hit with your awful autos WITH the e in order to be at all effective

To be honest, once you get used to playing Malzahar, his autos are not that bad for last hitting.

A champion that I've found to be a lot worse at last hitting than Malzahar, however, is Swain. His autos are incredibly clunky and slow, I miss so many last hits with this champion that it is not even funny. To make the matters worse, he doesn't even have any waveclear or reliable last hitting ability.

Vladimir also has clunky autos, but at least his Q allows him to last hit reliably, and he has waveclear.

Its hilarious how different these things can be. Personally I find Swains AA to be more on the pleasant side. Those who give me trouble are Elise (I like playing her midlane) Karma Lissandra.

CarbRundum1 votes

mid lane Elise is the hardest shit to farm with. Spider form does make it a lot better, though

Karma's AAs oh god. The flashbacks.

She also has low AD on purpose so she doesnt AA abuse the 1-2 champions she outranges in midlane lol

Riven has a pretty bad auto animation, same with Quinn

Don't forget Nautilus . His slow windup before dropping his anchor tilts me every time.

But then when it happens it feels so good, especially if it kills someone.

Oh and I think Malzahar has the worst aa animation atm.

lol I remember his old AA, it was such a huge particle that you always expected it to do a fuck ton of damage, but it never did

Oh but it did deal massive damage

I read somewhere that some champs have awkward/varying Auto's an an intentional part of the champs design and balance. Some of the old champ spotlights even would talk about how easy it was to CS with the champ because of their auto animation.

Ahh, this is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!

One thing I'd like is to see Riot smooth out champion auto attacks for attack speed. If you build some AS on a champ, you shouldn't have to deal with a clunky AA that looks like it's canceling mid animation because the next AA hit before the animation finished.

I would not call Cass an "old" champ, she received her new model last year.

Some champ has slow AA animation, you just have to get used to it. Not necessarily part of "balance", they just made them more fancy than they should be, but then people got used to it and changing it makes them unhappy.

I believe they didn't touch any of her animations when they worked on her model.

So she's technically an old champion, especially compared to most.

A model does not move on it own. Someone has to work it.

If it looks the same as with the old model, it's because they made it so.

I'll take pretty much any league champ's auto over a Dota champ's auto. You have't seen hell until you've seen Clinkz's old AA.

Then you have extremely smooth ones like Windrunner that were so smooth they got nerfed.

Clinkz had an OLD AA?

Lina and CM are really disgusting, too. To make it even worse, in DotA it feels like you have half as much AD as in League.

thats a good thing we need less ad

I find that the most painful AA animation is a low attack speed vayne the projectile isn't terrible its the winding up animation thats terrible when you have low attack speed

A champions auto animation is a part of their balance, yes. You know why Vlad has such a shitty auto animation? So he sometimes has to use Q and E to last hit and give his opponents openings to attack him. You know why Vel'koz has such a snappy auto animation? Because his waveclear spell is absolute garbage at securing CS until lvl 7.

I agree. Buff Amumu's AA, his start up is unbelieveable

I like Cassio's AA animation, Anivia's is bad though

anivia has already had her AA responsiveness improved by a lot, you wouldn't want season 1-3 anivia autoattacks (though i personally miss them for how strong they were at harassing early)
