5 mastery rank champions in ranked only

I just got this amazing idea after I just played a game which we lost just because someone was playing a champion first time.

What if you could play at ranked only champions with 5 mastery rank ? That way you won't have almost every game someone in your/or enemy team playing first time champion he has no idea how to play, against enemy who played with champion he knew how to play with.

Edit: after reading that people don't have that much champions on mastery rank 5, (and after remembering that you need 16 champions to play ranked) I think that mastery rank 1 should be enough, since you would probably have after 1-2 games at least basic level of understanding how that champion works

That is not an amazing idea; That's a terrible idea. A terrible idea we have gone over before. Firstly because it locks players out of champions they can play for not having an arbitrary number of games, Secondly it locks entire players out of ranked for not having an arbitrary number of games on multiple champions, and Third because "mastery" is absolutely meaningless, it doesn't mean you know how to play the champions, it just means you have played an arbitrary number of games with them.

I could go on but I don't need to; Reason 3 and the fact that I can get Level 5 Mastery playing nothing but AD Fiddlesticks Mid is enough.

Well, I don't know how you, but when I reach mastery rank 5 I know how to play that champion decently (I won't master them, but still at least play them on level that I feel like I can go ranked with) also it's not that hard to get it.

Yeah you could play AD fiddlesticks Mid, but you would still be better with that (even though it's not in the meta) as someone who just thought "I never played this champion, but hey, why not try it, maybe I will actually be good with him."

And what you said that it would lock players from ranked, well yeah it would, but at least you wouldn't have someone who just got lvl30 play ranked, that's just one of advantages.

But I respect your opinion.

Lots of champions I know how to play but simply don't. I only had more than Mastery 2 on one champion (Nami) for a long time; only after I was at about 130k mastery on her did I bother ranking up 2 more.

You need to own 16 champions to play Ranked, so that everything you can play can't possibly all be picked or banned away. If you needed mastery 5 to play a champ in ranked that means you'd need Mastery 5 on at least 16 champions; how many do you have at 5? Or even 3 for that matter. That's a hell of a lot of games for an arbitrary requirement.

If someone calls your role, then you're screwed out of that game, have fun going that mastery rank 5 malphite adc because you didn't get top or jungle

If you want to require a mastery rank in ranked, I am of the view point that it should be mastery 1. That would prevent first timers and solve your problem. Saying that someone needs mastery 5 for ranked is saying that some one would have to play about 576 games prior to entering ranked, assuming 50% win rate. That's a lot of games for champions you have no intention of playing.

People's pools would be too small. It takes a minimum of 16 champions to play ranked and double or triple that to actually play properly. I only have like 6 lv 5's because I primarily only play those 6 champions. I can obviously play other champions, but I won't if I have a choice. Leveling up enough champions to lv 5 to properly play ranked would take me an entire season or more of playing champions I don't want to play. So can't say I like to idea.

Something like champion mastery lv 2 or 3 might be doable. But even then pools would be extremely limited.
