PLZ FIX YOUR YOUR MATCHMAKING SO PEOPLE CANT BAN THE CHAMP YOU SELECT WHEN YOU PICK YOUR PREFERRED CHAMP. I UNDERSTAND IF THE ENEMY TEAM BANS YOUR CHAMP BUT GOD DAMN WHEN YOUR TEAMMATES BAN WHAT YOU SELECT ITS ANNOYING AS HELL.....

I mean, if I see a teammate hover a champ they have a 40% wr on over 50 games, I'm gonna ban that champ. I know it's annoying that people on your team do that, and it's rude because they are just being toxic 99% of the time, but sometimes it's something that helps the team rather than hinders them.

I understand ranked, but if you're doing this in draft, that's indefensible.

This is the kind of thing that should get someone banned. Thats just intentionally banning someone else's pick, and its not good. If you ban it because its a strong pick and the enemy team might pick it, then sure. If you ban it because your team mate wants it, suspension. No questions asked.

If the strength of a pick is going to be a factor, then supposing the support pick is not a strong pick, then surely it is trolling to want to pick it?

And if the support is potentially a strong pick, then surely it's never wrong to ban it since the opponent might pick it?

Trying to enforce rules around subjective strength is a can of worms probably best avoided, hence why theres no solid rules around banning pick intent. It's kind of dick-ish to ban someones intent, but everyone has their own ban to do with what they feel is best. If someone really doesn't want to play with/against a particular champ, thats their right, even if it sometimes feels bad for teammates who wanted to play that champ. It's not clear that the feels-bad of forcing someone to play with a champ they hate is meaningfully different than the feels-bad of someone being unable to play the champ they love though.

It's sometimes a poor strategic choice to ban a teammates intent, but that'll show up in their mmr over the long term if they aren't making informed bans and just spiting people.

Not picking a strong pick =/= trolling. I hate to break it to you, but every single champion in LoL is viable and capable of being played at virtually every single ELO out there. Unless youre in masters division or higher, you can play everything.

If your team mate wants to troll, you banning their intended pick wont stop them from trolling. It will just mean you both will end up needing to be reported after the game.

Your "no solid rules" claim also doesnt work. LoL doesnt have many solid rules, and has a loose guideline you can get banned for. This should fit in said guideline.

Great, so every champion is viable at every ELO short of masters+.

You said "If you ban it because it's a strong pick and the enemy team might pick it, then sure.", so therefore anyone can ban anything since everything is a strong pick in the right hands, provided they're not masters+.

It depends on your intent. If youre banning it specifically to block your team mate, then you deserve a ban. If youre banning to block the enemy team, then its debatable.

Theres also pick percentages that come into play. If you ban Aatrox because your team mate is hovering Aatrox, theres no "im stopping the enemy" counter argument; Aatrox isnt picked enough for it to be an argument. Its fairly easy to disprove the "blocking enemy" argument, as even if anything can be played, not everything is played often.

You can't prove intent though. So when a troll ban player gets banned and contests it with support and claims their intent was to block the enemy team, how does anyone prove otherwise?

If you bring pick percentages into it, then you'll get people mad about riot enforcing the meta, claiming people can only ban things that are popular. It's also a poor criteria to begin with, since theres definitely champs with low pick rates that can feel awful to play against if you do get them (for example, theres been times when azir was completely OP in the right hands, but most people couldn't play him so he still had a relatively low play rate).

Theres also the situation where someone got into champ select, had a team more or less picked, and then someone dodged. If you get back to champ select with 3 of the same people, theres strategic value to banning the missing persons champ even if it's low pick rate, since they probably got shuffled to the enemy team.

Also also, pick rates differ between regions, and further differ between regular and competitive. If some pro picks something somewhere and it works, it might cause the pick rate to spike a bit soon after, so pick rate data would still be low but it might still be a worthwhile ban. Theres also plenty of streamers/youtubers who can have a similar effect, and with the number of those out there it's not feasible for riot to just monitor every single one to see if they might have played something that might impact player ban habits.

" If you get back to champ select with 3 of the same people, theres strategic value to banning the missing persons champ even if it's low pick rate, since they probably got shuffled to the enemy team."

Irrelevant to the discussion, as you wouldnt be banning someone's champ on your own team.

Seriously, at this point youre not doing yourself any favors. You cant hide your trolling behind "im just trying to ban it on the enemy team" every single time. If i played ranked or normal draft, and you banned my pick intent, im just reporting you after the game. No questions asked. I dont care about your intent. That solve your stupid problem?

Mysticman891 votes

You might be, what if your replacement person also wanted that champ?

You're welcome to report whoever you like, but this was a discussion about what riot should actually ban for, and you yourself said intent mattered. If your plan is to report everyone banning your champ regardless of intent, that seems like a strong reason for riot to ignore those sorts of reports, since theres no way to sort them by intent.

Just to be clear, I think people who intentionally ban someones pick intent are awful people, and would be happy to see them removed from the game, I just don't feel it's possible to enforce any rules around it without producing a lot of false positives and drama.

Generally people who ban pick intents to troll players on their own team do it relatively consistently, or are dicks elsewhere. They also love to make it known in chat. Its fairly easy to tell.

You play Shaco support, of course your ADC bans Shaco. The only way Shaco support works is if your enemy is a complete retard.

As a ryze one trick main there is a very high chance my team will ban ryze to prevent me from playing him if I hover him so I just can't hover my pick.

I don't know why riot hasn't done this yet.

I agree with this. If I join a ranked game and someone dodges, it is mandatory to reque instead of continue because they will just ban your champ if they are smart at all. Which they are, and with 5 bans it is nothing.

Another huge problem with reques is you get autofilled. If you que in as a specific role you should not be tossed around period. I personally ALWAYS stop que before avg. que time and reque. It is just as quick as waiting, but if you are under avg que time you rarely get your second pick or autofilled. It is great. I really dislike the autofill and secondary roles(or at least them being forced on you). You should pick who you want and get that role.

But.. I also hate bans. They are overall meaningless and take away from whoever wanted to play that champs fun. Sometimes you just want that one champ and now with 10 bans it does get frustrating.
