WHY SHOULDN'T SUPPORT PLAYER GET KILLS?

Grettings summoners, I have a question for ya.

Why shouldn't support players get kills?

Ok ok, I understand the hierarchy in terms of fire power is that the support is last on the list ( mainly because starting/support focus item takes up a space used mainly for vision and help to gather gold without taking from the ADC). I understand the gold is better spent on the team members doing the killing. What I have a problem with is when I get flamed for killing a enemy champ when I think I should get the kill. For me to go for a kill there must be certain conditions. It's hard to decide something like this within tenths of a second so I have some rules I trying to habitually fallow. These are the conditions:
  • the enemy champion must be low on health
  • If my ult is a purely dmg ult ( I usually will reserve stuns for engages and closing in for a team mate)
  • I must be/have been within the vicinity of another team mate
  • acknowledge that I maybe killed in exchange for any enemy champion except there support ( I rarely risk for another support)
  • If my ADC died while we went in to fight and I know I can get a kill safely (not seeking/chasing out a kill, but 1-2 hits directly after our engage)
  • If there is a 3v3 (or more) team fight
  • I am aware my ADC skill level is clearly not enough to win the enemy ( this is my attempt to save the lane because I'm sure my ADC WILL NOT deliver)

I should also note that I very very rarely engage in a battlle, even a 1v1 if I don not have a team mate with me. This is specifically to prohibit myself from taking an easy kill from a team mate when I am not sure I will win the 1v1.

SO, having those conditions in mind, I feel that if I kill an enemy champion it's simple because it was the right thing to do. Every other team mate should be over powering me. I should not be able to get a kill during an engage because my fire power will not hold up compared to other team mates. Yes I may have gotten lucky and gotten the last hit, it is possible. However, if my other team mate leave a small window for the enemy champ to escape because my team mate is waiting on there skill cooldown to be over or something of that nature, then yes I'm going to fire. I have been in situations where me and a team mate are chasing down enemy champ safely and the enemy needs just a tap to die. My team mate does in fact have a movement ability to close in, but it's on cooldown (obviously because my team mate has not used it to get the kill yet). Yes, if my skill can get them, I will use it and get the kill. Why leave time for the enemy to possibly dodge my team mate and me as well. Please understand I am usually behind my team mate in this situation as well.

In conclusion, I thing if support gets a kill, it's mainly because some other team mate is not doing there job correctly. Don't get mad at me if you can't get that kill. I have had a few games where I have killed more than 5 enemy champs. I have once even gotten a quadrakill. HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN??? It clearly can not be me all the time. I'm not perfect and probably not great at this game, but dang. Help me understand why it's better to not go for that kill. Am I being flammed fairly? Help me understand.

A support will often have 2-3 kills in a game that should probably go to a carry. It's often unavoidable, my scorch, comet or ignite will kill an enemy, and that's no problem.

The problem is when the person being killed is pretty much cc'd on 50hp, and you can auto to ks when there's no need. So many supports do it where the Morgana will hit a Q on an enemy without flash and 200hp, it drops them to less than 50, their Vayne tumbles in and has passive, and the morg autos it for the ks.

Your Vayne gets roughly 1min 30sec closer to her BotRK+Guinsoos powerspike with every 300 gold kill (And a fully stacked guinsoos allows her to proc silver bolts in two auto attacks, she blows enemies apart at that point) and she snowballs off of the BotRK, so it's like you have an adc that either goes like:

0 / 1 / 1, can't get vamp scepter 1st buy, to 0 / 2 / 1 out of laning phase to 1 / 5 / 1 and she's just useless, 8k damage and you lose the game

or

1 / 1 / 0 to 3 / 1 / 1 to 17 / 2 / 5 and she hard carries, 50k damage, and you win because she hits the powerspikes early.

In the first scenario you'd probably say "Trash ADC, ADC difference, Vayne no damage" but you ks'd and she didn't get her items early so ofc she didn't do damage. It makes a large difference and you should really try to be careful when it comes to who the kill gold goes to.

I made a joke to my friend the other day. "you know you're playing support, when you take the kills". Because that happens a lot.

All jokes aside. If it's a damage support like Lux or Brand, take them. if you're playing Soraka, then no.

Honestly its about taking kills your team does not need help with. If you can let it go to a teammate at 0 risk then that's best to let them get it. When its under pressure you and theres any risk, play it safe and secure the kill. don't hold onto CC under pressure even if it has damage.

Some players have a KD god complex and tilt if they miss even 1 kill... even if say summoner 14 is what got it or you had to use an abilty to protect teammates/yourself. Ignore this player for they do not understand teamplay.

Then again I play Off meta BS, Botrk support Bard and Mejais ap nami support and frequently nuke the faces off folks. People will tilt about the build or that I get kills... but eh its my playstyle.

Basicaly, as long as your not proactively trying to ks, and not stealing safe kills your fine.

unless your Pyke . If you don't KS with pyke R your playing him wrong.

Marksmen do rely heavily on gold, and the more gold they get the better yes. However, it's not worth trying to let the ADC get the kill if there's even a small chance that the enemy might get away or, even worse, actually turn things around and kill you. Better that your ADC get 150 gold rather than neither of you getting anything.

The idea behind why supports are suppose to give up the kills is because supports typically provide more utility and less damage. Utility is gonna be there regardless of the items they buy, and their builds are cheaper than a carries. That being said we are now approaching season 9 where if you're bot laner was behind the times enough to go a champ that ACTUALLY needs to auto attack and crit people, then you might as well just take the kills because they're trolling. Tell them next time you should have gone a useful champion like a mage, then hit them with an XD and make sure to save ignites to secure kills so the gold doesn't go to waste on a champion that will die to anything that looks at them in teamfights anyways.
