How do you fight veigar

vimaid·12/14/2019, 6:30:58 AM·11 votes·7,360 views

I have constantly shat On veigar the entire laning phase as far as going 6/0 against him and he has no kills but somehow he is allowed to just one shot people for literally doing something everyone in the game already has to do in the first place. he is being rewarded for something thats rewarded in the first place. This is not ok. he shouldn't have a Oh I win button. (Oh but why don't you dodge his skill shots) In fact I do dodge most of the time its nigh impossible to dodge every single one.
My issue is I can shit on him and even win lane and then veigar can up and one shot me being 1/5 or 2/8 [sg-shisa]

The great things about playing veigar is his burst. The shitty thing about playing veigar is that it is a burst, and his cooldowns are long. Couple that with people literraly choosing whether or not they get stunned by his e, and he is very challenging to play.

  1. Do not have teamates or yourself that choose to walk across border of e. Only flash out.
  2. When less than half health, and veigs has his ult (90 second to 60 second cd depending on point in game and build/learn order) don't solo him.

He's actually very easy to shut down both early and late game with Ahri , my other mid main.

Have you tried ending the game before thanos becomes inevitable?

Bait the stun and then kill him. His only two reliable abilities that do damage are his q and r. If his w manages to hit you either he outplayed you or you deserve to get hit.

If you want the mastery level 7 veigar answer, you're not supposed to fight him solo once it reaches mid game. You will almost certainly die if he has any stacks whatsoever. It sounds bs (and it kind of is), but you have to outroam him mid game because of his lack of mobility and reliable CC making him probably the worst roamer in the game. Also, as others have mentioned, you can still beat him if you bait out his crowd control because it has at least a 10 second cooldown until 45% cdr.

lets not mention his e stun is the full width of a lane.

Generally when I play vs him and we start to get into late game, I build item 3102 and it becomes impossible for him to kill me.

ADs have it easier withitem 3156 item 3814 .

Zhonyas negates his ult.

...?

You beat Veigar like how you beat every other infinite scaling champion.

You kill their team. Thats all.

Because the entirety of their potential depends entirely on how long their team can last through the game.

Simply because when the losing side is behind, they tend to group up

And when they group up, they each end up not being able to cs as easily as they compete against each other.

Basically you're asking how to stop him from scaling

So its literally just you placing him in a situation where he can't scale as easily.

I don't know what else to tell you.

You can shit on him as much as you want, but he can still stack off of minions if his team is still doing alright.

If u beat veigar in lane most of the work is done. To not have him fed by your team i suggest either pick him before tf with your lead or avoid tf'ing in close spaces like jung.

  1. His early game is abysmal, until lvl 5 he'll lose EVERY trade with no way to do anything about it. He can't push waves until at least lvl 8 + lost chapter, the only time you can die to him at 6 is when you disrespect him and get poked out by his Q's. Push the wave, roam, take the scuttle, get lane priority, get other lanes ahead.

  2. Even if he's very far behind, he still has an amazing pick potential due to his cage, playing against Veigar is like playing against an assassin or something like Thresh or Blitz (very vague but the point is that if you get caught out by him you'll probably die or at least lose ~75% of your hp if you have no MR at around 25 minutes (he'll probably have 2 items, most likely rabadon and mana item)). The way Veigar gets back into the game is by picking people off or getting free side lane (again, threaten him if you have an assassin on your team or do objectives and push other side of the map, do not waste time, it only gets worse as he gets stronger). Basically, push any advantage you have against him.

  3. Respect his range, the danger zone against Veigar is slightly more than his auto range (about 600), which is the range that allows you to put up your cage without them being able to leave it without using any mobility. Cleanse, QSS are god-sent against him.

  4. If he misses his W and Q and cage runs out, just turn on him, you have about 3-4 seconds to kill him without him being able to fight back in any kind of way.

  5. He cannot kill more than 1 person at a time unless he's VERY, VERY fed. But then again, if Veigar gets fed, his mid game is absolutely monstrous and he can probably just 1v3 you if you don't have any hard cc like Malz's R or WW's R.

  6. He can't do anything about being poked from a far, Ezreal and Xerath are extremely annoying, with only option for him to do anything against them is to have his team engage a fight or your team engage on him, Veigar's counterengage is nuts. He pretty much traps anyone that tries to get into the backline and usually it causes them to die.

Tl;dr abuse his short range, abuse his weak early, buy items like qss, respect his power to counterengage by zoning people off their team.

In addition to what people already said here, play him yourself. It's the easiest way to understand how a chsmpion works, what's their strenghts and weaknesses and what they struggle against.

(Buy item 3156 or item 3102 )

I play Veigar almost exclusively on the rare occasion I actually get mid rather than bot, here's the champions I greatly dislike playing against:

Fizz Though he gets immediately banned. Kassadin he's irritating for more or less the same reasons fizz is, but he see less play at least in my Elo, so he gets a pass. Morgana Good luck getting a reliable stun, doesn't ever have to engage with you after her w as three ranks, and does a surprising amount of damage at close-ish range. Ziggs Long range annoyance Xerath Long range annoyance Velkoz Long range annoyance

I would add a couple of assassins but if I play against an assassin I just rush item 3157 and thanks to running Glacial Augment I get huge CDR for those items and use item 2033 for mana management.

Maybe practicing one of these champs would help you succeed against Veigar. Though I wouldn't bother with Fizz, almost all Veigar's will ban him priority #1.

If you can force him from lane early and keep up the pressure as long as nobody else lets him scale up he is very squishy and slightly lower damage. Ult is always dangerous, but several champs can just burst him first because their rotation is easier to land than the rest of his. If you can tank it and close without eating everything else you should win most of the time. While they have other drawbacks artillery champs, or champs with strong zone control, can zone him back to reduce his stacking. Any rapidly activated shield can negate his ult. I'd think that Diana's new kit played well might be pretty rough on him.

dolce de leche12/14/2019, 2:44:36 PM1 votes

As a Veigar support player, the whole point of playing him is that slow but inevitable buildup to dominating the game, and that if you're able to snowball even a little you can push your powerspike far earlier into the midgame. Veigar scales well on both items and his passive, but only really needs one or the other to kill effectively against squishies. When playing against him abuse your advantage over him, and don't let the game last too long. Veigar, like all infinitely stacking champs, and especially those truly built around it(Veigar Senna Nasus especially there is a break point at which they can take over the game even if you were ahead of them. The whole idea is that they give up early game for this break point, but if you can't end the game, then you're on thin ice.

Crescent Dusk12/14/2019, 8:32:25 PM1 votes

Play nocturne mid. He will never be able to cage you and once you have ult if he's by the middle of the lane he's dead.

Nocturne mid is pretty much a counter to all CC dependent mages like Veigar, Zoe, Syndra, Xerath, or Velkoz. You can spell shield every single one of their CC's.

Alternatively you can play Zed and crap on them as well.

Aggressive ADC's like tristana/draven/lucian/kai'sa mid also stomp him early.

Malphite and Cho'gath mid work too since they're too beefy to be poked out easily and they also poke extremely well and have far better all in potential.

One single chogath knock up early means death for veigar if he isn't hugging turret.

AP malphite is AP malphite. He outpokes most mages if the mages can't force an extended trade to get through his shield and outtrade him with autos. Once he has ult he bursts you at half health.

I mean, if you're really desperate, assassins shit on him real hard, just bait out e and go in. Zed is his #1 hard counter because he can just ignore the e with his shadows
