Tanks that do damage

Top King Lubbock··1 votes·3,416 views

So, in my recent games, Ranked/Normals, I have run into a huge issue with a certain group of champions.

Nasus Yorick Darius Garen SION Illaoi Kled Trundle Irelia

This is a list of champs that I have run into that can be tanks but also do a ton of damage, making them a huge influence on games. I feel like this group of champs should be either a fighter like Riven or a full tank like Maokai. Not Both. Having champs that can be a strong combination of being super tanky and having high damage output makes them an unstoppable force. Leading to terrible experiences. Like for instance, a summoner went support sion and built full assassin (duskblade, ghostblade, edge of night, etc.) He still had like 4k-5K health, and could one shot every member of my team with only his Q. I feel like that is a problem and it is the same with all of the other champs on that list. Yorick can just play passively get some turret plating, get a few items and solo carry his team because he has high damage output and is still very tanky. I just want to get some input from the community and hopefully share if this is just me getting unlucky or if this is an issue that needs to be addressed.

Among the entire list, only Sion is a tank; the rest are either juggernauts, or divers, both fighter subclasses.

And even then, he does a lot more damage than most tanks. So calling him a tank is pretty iffy, hes awarded with extra damage for having a less reliable kit that can be completely dodged by mobility even when it should have already been too late.

Almost all of those champions are reliant on healing / shielding in order to tank, some cant even last that long unless they kill whoever is doing the most damage to them.

Slapping random labels where they don't belong won't solve the problem. Call them what they are: Bruisers.

When I said reliant on healing / shielding in order to tank, I wasn't trying to call them tanks I was insisting that they wernt actually tanky by nature.

True; it's the OP's problem for mislabeling.

Tanks are more classified by their CC than their defensive mechanics. Sion is a tank, his damage is high for his class because of how unreliable it is.

Tahminatrix 1 votes

That's literally what I said, he does more damage because he is unreliable.

And ofc they arnt classified as tanks, they are reliant on killing the enemy in order to actually tank rather than ccing them and having more than barebones defensive mechanics.

Sion isn't classified as a tank because he's reliant on killing the enemy? Sion isn't reliant on killing the enemy.

Where did I say sion isn't classified as a tank????????

At this point im gonna ask why YOU think hes not a tank....see how that feels -.-

At most I said he is pretty iffy as a tank and that is due to him being allowed to have more damage than most tanks because he is unreliable while most tanks have more immediate abilities.

But then you repeat my argument and say he is unreliable, as if you cant even read.

Then you ask if Im saying he isn't a tank? Why are you even talking to me if you are gonna troll lol.

"They arnt classified as tanks" that is plural, is sion more than one champion? No ofc not, im clearly not talking about sion I was talking about the rest of the champions listed by the op, sion is more "tank" than all of those champions I was talking about combined.

You said calling Sion a tank is iffy.

Tahminatrix 1 votes

That's literally what I just addressed, thanks for repeating me again? I never said he wasn't a tank saying something is iffy is not saying its 100% not true.

Sorry but I refuse to entertain you anymore.

As the other poster said, Sion’s the only real tank there. Irelia and Kled are divers, needing to build some damage and focused on killing and managing to survive. The rest are Juggernauts, the tanky, melee, minimal gapclosing damage dealers. If they manage to get on you, they will hurt. That’s the point of their kit, being the tankiest melee carries at the cost of their CC and mobility.

Juggernauts and Divers are both Fighters, not tanks.

Tanks have utility, sion can zone really hard while also being a brick wall. He has large slows and armor shred and his engage is amazing.

The only bruiser on that list that gets even close to a tank's amount of utility is irelia, but even then they took away the disarm. Also everyone hates irelia because she's overloaded but that's another issue.

Bruisers are high damage, medium tankiness, and medium to low cc.

Tanks are medium damage, high tankiness, and medium to high cc.

That's why we separate them into classes.

As much as I agree with your sentiment, your examples are kind of shitty

Nasus is the only one on that list that I feel is overtuned right now, and that’s because of all of the buffs riot has given him over the past few patches
