Season 9 -- Does Elo Hell Actually Exist (in S9)
I always told people that elo hell is a myth. If you say you are stuck in elo hell, you are at the elo you deserve to be.
So this this in mind, I made a new account (not this one - this is for an experiment ill reveal at the end of this season) and attempted to climb to diamond 4 like Ive done for 3 years now. All was going well, I got my flex adventure out the way first as many of you know its a piece of piss. I mainly used AP Malphite to get to diamond 4 in about 35 ish games. I began to think this would be over quickly as my placement games put me in plat 4.
Fast forward 80 games. I am 0 LP plat 4. It seems this season something has changed. The calibre of player is significantly varied from game to game. There is ALWAYS someone on your team that you can see is genuinely considerably worse than you, and everyone in the game. Now I know what people are going to say, because I was one of them. "If you are much better then you can carry" and for the most part you are correct...except you are not. For some reason, I cannot quite tell you why as I dont know myself, however I have deduced three possible explanations.
1 - People are boosted more -- With the inherent problem of Solo / Duo comes friends who want to play ranked together who would otherwise be separated by several ranks. I don't believe many players pay for boosts. What I mean by this is that for example Jimmy, a gold 1 player wants to play with his mate Sam the Silver 4 player. Well They can do so, and Sam will likely gain free LP from this transaction. Solution to #1 - Remove the duo aspect. It brings so many unfair advantages which I have not even touched on here.
2 - The system for punishing players does not work -- No I'm not talking about toxic players, frankly I do not care if someone is toxic as there is a way to completely stop that with the mute button. I am talking about those players who are in games 0/6 rage splitting with 20 cs. The player that AFK's after one death. The player that counter jungles while your base is being opened. These players face NO punishment what so ever -- in fact I have legitimate proof of this (stay tuned). Again there is a solution to this, banning players who perform in such behaviours. As of right now ONLY players who type in game will get punished, and more often than not although I do not agree with being toxic, they player is usually right to be annoyed. Solution to #2 - complete overhaul of punishment systems.
3 - Autofill. - This problem is my most hated problem of all. The autofill. Not only can you be put against 2 teams of 2 on the enemy side in a SOLO ranked game, you will most likely have 1 or 2 members on your team NOT playing a role they signed up for. I don't feel like I need to explain why this system is completely ridiculous. Solution to #3 - Remove autofill or have an option to only play with player of selected roles (even if this comes at increased que times).
Now I do not know if I am the only one who genuinely feels hard stuck this season. I do not mean to criticise my team mates in plat 4 however I know I am better than them, yet feel helpless at the same time. What are you thoughts on this? Is Riot really looking to improve their gaming experience? As for me I have always enjoyed LoL whether winning or losing, however this year I have almost found myself uninstalling the game. The enjoyment really is lacking, instead I feel frustrated at the state of gameplay and would be surprised if no-one else feels this way.
