Death Recaps

Death Recaps OP

Can we please get useful death recaps again? Just look through the images in that album, from four ARAMs, because that's just the kick I've been on lately.

For those who can't view, and to sum up nicely what you're looking at:

The first recap shows me taking 1997 damage over 12.79 seconds, with Gangplank's ult doing 298, Lucian's Q doing 271 and basic attacks doing 291, and Elise's spider swarm minion doing 173. That leaves 964 damage unaccounted for, more than any single person contributed alone. Where did it come from? Minions? Soraka? Who knows.

The second shows 3503 damage taken in 7.92 seconds, with Trundle dealing 100 with chomp, 110 with blade of the ruined king, and 217 with basic attacks. Elise dealt 450 with her spider form q, 224 with her caster form q, and a whopping 30 with basic attacks. The final contributor is a recent death recap hero, the purple caster minion, who hit me for a massive 134 damage. 2238 damage unaccounted for, and even though with the way this game went it was almost certainly Lucian who did most of it, I'd still like to know where it came from so I could build against it.

The third has me eating a meager 1101 damage in 15 seconds. Alistar got me for 89 with Pulverize, 34 from his passive, and 66 from his basic attacks. Zilean attacked me twice for 106 damage, and Blue Melee Minion apparently learned to do true damage somewhere, though that's another glitch entirely with death recaps that isn't quite as necessary to be fixed as the lack of reliable damage reporting. 621 damage is missing from this report, likely in Cabo, trying to get away from the cold.

The fourth and final reveals the most pro of Nidalee builds hitting me for 261 with takedown, 55 from basic attacks, and 3 from.. somewhere. Blue Super Mech got a hit in for 87, while Anivia contributed 285 from her e and 44 from her ult to my demise. The trouble is, this is only 735 of the 1754 I took over 2.57 seconds.

This isn't limited to me, nor is it limited to Howling Abyss. Friends and I always joke about how useful death recaps have been when we play games on Summoner's Rift, because they clearly are less useful than they were back when Riot started trying to fix them in season 1. Or, hell, maybe they're exactly as useful, it's honestly been so long I forgot how terrible they were back then. This time last year, or two years ago, the death recaps worked wonderfully, so what happened? Hell, even if you can't answer that, can we please at least get useful recaps again?

i played an ARAM recently where the death recap said that i died from taking 19 damage from jinx's Revive summoner.

you can't take revive in arams, but more importantly - revive doesn't deal damage >_>

so you get a +1 from me.

That's nothing. These minions managed to learn Emperor's Divide!

They need to make two very simple tabs/charts. at the top of the tab it lists the total damage taken in X seconds (to tell if it was DPS or burst better), and then one chart has three bars that show magic damage, physical damage, and true damage taken by percentages, i.e. 65% magic damage, 30% physical damage, 5% True damage. The chart next to it shows percent of damage from different sources (not by spell, but from any unit that damaged you) so it would be something like Leblanc: 50% damage dealt. Nami: 10% damage dealt. Irelia: 20% damage dealt. Minions: 5%. Towers: 15%.

That would cover everything important and be clear and concise about it.

I took 110 damage from Zileans Slow. I stopped playing arams and went to sleep after that game

One time my death recap was like, 4% from minions, 1% from revive (Sun Fire Cape), and 2% from Alistar's passive.

Thanks death recap. Thanks.

The 2000 damage from katarina will never be as important as the 7 damage from minions.

My favorite one so far was when Baron Nashor killed me with a 2147483647 exhaust with the help of a 1 damage Sivir on Dominion. (For those that don't know, 2147483647 is the largest possible number for most computer numbers before things break. It's sometimes used as an error code.)

I've managed to be part of the assist for killing myself with ~100 damage a few times. :/

This is what I think every single death recap I look at. Where is all the missing damage, everytime.

So just for some context, Riot knows about this, and they've acknowledged that it's broken, and they've pretty much said that they aren't going to fix it yet, because when they do fix it, they want a better death recap.

I've shared these thoughts for a long time. With the current state of the game the death recaps we have now are insufficient. Some of the icons don't show properly. For instance when the game is convinced that you took damage from revive. Or seemingly the will of another summoner (it'll show a blank icon space and the enemy summoner's name). Team fights can be so bursty that, as a tank, just knowing the 3 sources of damage that hit you the hardest isn't going to be very helpful when you're planning the rest of your build. But the biggest reason why I think it's bad now is because some of the spells don't show properly. I remember when I was a noob and I would get destroyed by a champ I didn't know anything about. I was like "what the hell was that". The death recap helped me gain an understanding of the matchup that I had hopelessly lost so that I could do better in another game.

I get combo'd to death by Brand, including getting hit by his utli 3 times

Death recap shows damage done by minions, Lucian's Q and that one tower shot
