Remove chat completely from ranked play

I believe chat should be removed from all ranked play (or at least bronze - platinum) completely. ~80% of the time, chat is used as nothing more than a way to rage. It is very seldom used for actual strategy communication, which it was made for.

There are already many ways to communicate without the use of chat:

All of the different pings:

  • Alert
  • retreat
  • enemies missing
  • assist me
  • danger
  • on my way

As well as the new system That allows you to call out timers for everything:

  • large monster camps
  • skill cooldowns
  • summoner skill cooldowns
  • enemy summoners
  • respawn times
  • gold needed per item
  • active item cooldowns

With all these ways to already communicate fairly well without the use of chat whatsoever, I'm wondering what riot is missing.

I've come up with a small list of potential "smart pings" they could add to the smart ping wheel. Probably could only add 4, maybe 6 more options without affecting practicality.

  • "I'm gonna tank it"
  • push this lane
  • warded by enemy / ward here please
  • group up
  • focus, "click on enemy champ"
  • peel for, "click on teammate"

Please If you think I have good points, comment and get this thread some attention. Including but not limited to other ideas for potential smart ping options. Maybe even have a list of 20 or so options, and you're able to customize your own wheel with what you feel is viable.

If you think chat is a necessity, how come?

If you're in the camp that says, "just mute them." Then you've missed the point. The mute system is fundamentally flawed and doesn't solve the issue. If anything, it makes things worse, tilting the teammates you've muted.

Typing in something like "Janna F" is probably faster than looking for their icon on the score screen and clicking it. Chat actually has uses, fyi. It allows you to give players tips on how to play their champ or how to teamfight against a specific team comp.
