Garen's current status

I just played a Nocturne Jungle game where the enemy team had a garen. Now our Aatrox wasn't doing great against the Garen early, but who does? This Garen built pretty much no tank items. He went Tri Force, Steraks gage, Maw, Youmuus and a GA. SO he did a lot of dmg which is understandable. What I don't understand is the huge amount of damage he is able to tank with this build. I get there are some health items in there, but with my team being made up of Aatrox, Akali,Nocturne, Soraka and Caitlyn, it should not take the whole team to kill one bruiser who doesn't even have big tank items built like Thornmail or Warmogs even. Not too mention his q did like 1000 dmg and he could run me down while I was in nocturne shadow trails. It felt extremely unbalanced and un fun for all of us. We are just playing Draft pick trying to play League and have fun and this garen presses q and deletes our whole team; All while eating all of our dmg and burning down our towers like it's nothing. The tank meta is fun for the tanks but feels very unfun for everyone else.
