Azir's ok, kind of

Let me start off by saying Azir is probably fine, maybe a little on the weak side, but over all ok. That being said, I feel like he has some problems with his over all game play.

To me, his largest weakness is he only has one skill to trade with in lane, his Q. Which, more often than not, puts you in danger to use because of its relatively short range. This is a problem because if Q misses for whatever reason your follow up options are to either: not trade and probably take free damage, or put your self in more danger trying to place a Soldier next to your opponent. Even if you do hit them with Q, unlike a burst caster where you are only in danger for the duration of the burst, Azir has to stay in danger if he wants do damage. Otherwise, they just walk away from the soldier without being attacked. Orianna and Zyra are good examples of not being in danger for the duration of the burst.

Mid game skirmishes are what I love about Azir. Right when you get 40% CDR with blue, and Q and W are maxed, you get to move around the fight and kite and make interesting decisions. It's super fun.

His late game team fighting, on the other hand, is a little bland. You just put up your wall, and kind of stand there and auto attack the front line because you cant really get to the back line safely.

One last thing about Azir: its kind of hard to secure kills due to the nature of his damage not being burst, and not always being able to follow the fleeing opponent even though, by the end of the game, Azir normally ends up with the most damage by quite a lot.

Azir is going to be OP once they fix his bugs.

His Q needs more range imo.

At late game, he's basically the adc you wish you had for teamfights.

He just needs some serious buffs in order to be viable.

Also i honestly dont think his kit is very well designed. His Q and W are ok but his E is kind of a shit ability. If it didnt have such a huge delay it might well be better.

As it stands hes a squishy sustained damage mage with no reliable CC or self peels.

Bjergsen streams him regularly and rarely ever loses as him.

let me tell you about burstless champs like azir rumble and yasuo for those guys there is not much of trading in lane, they get what free dmg they can but they dont trade they are sort of lane bullies who can constantly harras and annoy you but the main thing is that they are focused on farm and late game

for azir its simple, his lane phase sucks but his late game teamfights are unmatched next thing is that azir has no burst, let me explain what this means:

  • he cant trade so good in lane
  • he is not very good at picking ppl off when they made minor mistakes (lack of burst) but
  • he is not reliant on ap as much meaning that he can grab a spirit visage and randuins yet still churn ppl like mad
  • he has no cooldowns meaning that you cant just catch a defensless azir who just used his combo, he is always at his peak of offensive power (his utility aka tower ul;t and jkump have logner cd's) -he just deals more dmg, because its constant

im my opinion pros outweight the cons because once he reaches his late game he can eat tanks like its nothing ... yet he does play diferent than other mages so it takes some time to use too

I think Azir is cruising to be the next Gnar. Universally dismissed as terrible on release. Gets some (much needed) QoL improvements/small buffs in the next patch. Falls off the radar for a little while. Then suddenly starts getting big in solo queue as people finally figure out how to build and play him.

As far as his kit goes--everything's there. People just need to figure out how to utilize it. His potential soldier damage is NUTS late game, with a very safe range to boot. I think he'd fit very well in a high CC team comp that can lock people down long enough for Azir's soldiers to rage on them.
