Playing with active items

I find myself purchasing items during a game, but how do I know my champion is using them? i.e. I know my champion uses the health/heart item because it goes dark after I select it. What about the other items? Do I have to hold the button down? I'm so confused please helpitem 1042

Could you give an example of what you are trying to use (actual name)? Active items are only used with their assigned button.

Not all items have an active, only a few. None of the boots have an active. The item will say if it has an active in its description in the shop.

You know the champion is using the item when it does something.

For example, when you activate item 3030 then your champion will jump forward and bolts will shoot out in a cone.

If you use the active on item 3048 then your champion's health bar gets a gray area and they'll get a shield.

All you really need to do is press the button the item is on. Like if it's in slot 2 and you have item 3030, press 2 on your keyboard and your champion will automatically do the action and then it'll go gray for the cooldown. Keep in mind not every item in the game has an active, read the description of it in the shop in-game or on the boards where you see the icons before making a post.

sourcerer's boots

item 3020 This item does not have an active. In the shop, click on the item and then read the description of it. It'll say something like "UNIQUE Active:" With sorcerer's boots, it says it has a "UNIQUE Passive:" in the descripion of it..which means it's always activated. You aren't able to actually see passives most of the time though.
