Remove Mage Supports

I know this is gonna offend all the mage support players and whatnots, but this is coming out of an (ex) adc main's perspective.

Mage supports are the worst. Playing with and against them. So let's say you play against a mage support: there goes your laning phase. You wanna last hit a minion? 50 spells in your face, with insane damage that can easily kill you. And other than a blitz or thresh hook, you can't just hide behind a minion in order to dodge a brand w or a lux e or pretty much any mage's spells. So you either go full sustain runes, which fall off insanely hard, or you just get fucked in lane. And to those of you thinking "Just take a sustain support, like soraka"; here comes the second point into play. Most supports are fucking idiots, honestly. They will pick a useless mage support into anything. The enemy has a zed or rengar that can one shot our jhin effortlessly? Let's pick brand and just watch our adc die repeatedly and notice that we can't ever save him! They are useless against any engage or poke or whatever, they only deal dmg minus the "supporting" part. playing with a mage support is cancer. They lack the cc and/or tankiness to help let alone save you in any given scenario. And anyone who thinks they can, should play a single game with a mage support against an engage support or any assassin reallly.

So obviously mage supports are cancer to play with or against, so just remove them. Remove spellthief's or just permanently suspend anyone who tries to pick brand support with jhin against rengar, tristana and rakan.

Well... supports that do the exact opposite of ap supports were nerfed for being "cancerous" and unfun (for lcs)....TahmKench Braum so goodluck out there finding true peel in solo queue.

Meanwhile if you have a naut or Leona, most of the time they are tunnel visioned on killing and wont provide consistent peel. (hence soloqueue, they just wanna kill and snowball which is horrible if you are an adc that scales)

Lets also note that an ap support just plops their combo down once and (provided they landed their abilities) have already done more work than a peel support ever could, even if they die right after their combo.

Yeah sounds like another entitled ADC main who believes their support should pick a champ to clean up their mess.

News flash, if you are unable to lane vs mage supports, pick another ADC, a safer ADC.

Not really. I would just like to see the "support" part in the supports, especially when playing against assassins or other heavy counters.

I have been seeing a trend of mid laners playing as support. I kinda hate it. Xerath, Syndra and Veiger. They have made bot lane kinda suck.

As someone who mains Vel'Koz, I myself am against this but is a strong strat and even play it when I feel like it.

But how the fuck is a perma ban the solution for somebody's own playstyle?!? I'm sorry but that's just low.

dw the perma thing was a joke, but you get the gist of it.

You're making a serious post and then give out a "joke"? Bloody hell man.

Funny I made a post a few days ago about how useless most AD's are at low ELO and are basically worthless and as a Mage Support I have more chance to carry for the first 25 minutes of the game and basically the AD is basically below me until maybe 30minutes, maybe.

I'd say if AD's weren't actual trash, if they actually knew how to fight and didn't just run, if they actually knew when they are strong in matchups and exploited it then I wouldn't need to play Neeko Support or build Galio Support full AP, or build Zilean Support full AP.

See I like supporting the team overall and me supporting JUST the AD in low elo is a good way for me to lose since most AD's are pretty bad and that's all there is to it.

I'd say the biggest cancer to a team are people who can't play their champ at all; that's what is cancer, it's not the picks because in this game there will always be Counter picks and Counter play. Just wanting to give up cause some scrub locks a tough matchup or wanting to play like shit because you don't understand how the matchup works is cancer imo.

Anyways, mage supports are actually really good for the game, if we didn't have mage supports then you would see every game with Raka, Janna, Sona and now Yuumi..Does that really sound like fun to play? The Ardent meta was one of the worse meta's ever in this game! There is a reason why Mage supports exist, cause otherwise there wouldn't be enough dmg on your team to ever break through the healing of enchanters like those who build things that make their kits even stronger (Athene's, Ardent, Redemption)..I play nami and janna sometimes when i'm really bored and honestly those champs are so meh to play and it puts you as the support at the mercy of your team mates, even taric who is technically my best champ i don't even bother playing in this elo because flat out i know i can't count on my team mates to do what their role is responsible for doing.

If ppl were actually invested in their role and understood how to play it and also how to push advantages they get, then yeah i could prolly play something that doesn't have dmg and go more to the utility side like Taric but the fact is I am a bigger asset most games because i can essentially become a 2nd midlaner who can cover up the weakness of my team mates until they eventually come online.

As a Mage support my job is to Support the Team by becoming a threat and win condition until my AD or Mid laner comes online.

Well fair enough, whether the support's at fault or the adc probably just depends on perspective.

But still I think mage "supports" aren't actual supports, since they don't support the adc. Sure, they can deal some damage, but in what scenario does that save the adc from being raped to death by whatever one shot champ or engage comp?

I see your point, and if I were to play support in lower elos I'd also pick a carry champ instead of relying on the adc. I'm just saying that that won't make the game any fun for the adc and you might as well just go mid.

On a serious note, I can't think of any scenario where it's better to go mage support instead of mid and not have a cc/shield/heal supp instead..

I would say the best reason to have a support mage is because the damage early is so much more than most ADCs can dish out; that is the primary reason to having a mage down there; in Mid lane a Champ like lets say Lux; she's decent right? But you put her bot and she becomes a powerhouse, her kit has so much damage already that she can out trade almost any ADC 1 v 1.

BTW Supports job isn't to support JUST the AD, it's to support the TEAM! If the AD was the best win condition for the team then it would make sense to play certain champs to buff that champ or to let that champ succeed but atm the AD in this meta is not often times the win condition and as such the support needs to focus on giving the team (Keyword TEAM) the best chance to win, that's what a Support does. My job isn't to JUST support the AD and that's the misconception of the role

Zyra same thing, Although Zyra mid is actually pretty terrible because she gets shit on by so many champs mid; you put her bot lane and she is so long range and so much poke that most ADCs can't really handle that and many Enchanter supports can't either because of Zyra's long range Root it offers a lot of catch and poke or catch and all in potential. The damage is eventually too much

Velkoz is even stronger than Zyra and Lux, that guy..just thankful that more people aren't good enough to play him tbh because he is like a Mage above all; his damage makes zyra look like a wet noodle and the all in potential early makes Draven look like a Bitch.

You wanna know why you lock those? Its cause you can win lane and snowball! If i lock Raka or Jana i suppose i could win lane but am i gonna snowball? Prolly not, it's prolly a really slow afk farm game that is 2 years too late and with the game being much faster paced as well it's better to snowball the lane and transition asap to somewhere else.

Most of my games generally speaking around less than 30minutes (when it gets 45 that is actually a long game) and i'm Silver! Last season the games (similar/same elo) would seemingly go on for 45-60minutes consistently and the season before that it was a little longer sometimes.

If this were Ardent meta again and the ADC was the only real win condition and things lasted for 45 minutes then I suppose there would be a case to be made but also the role of Tank has went down, there are more skirmishes around the map, more aggression and way way more allin.

This is honestly the worse time to be playing those classic enchanter supports because when they are behind they offer you very little and have very narrow windows to get you back in the game and are also conditional on others as well.

I honestly think that the only thing that matters is if there is pick potential (hard CC); if they have CC then that can be used offensively and defensively, and the better the CC the more consistent the champ; so even though Brand for sure has the DMG he is a little iffy since his CC is so inconsistent; he is a gamble to lock because of that. Zyra on the other hand, similar dmg but way way better CC and although she is slow as hell she has better range than Brand. Brand is honestly not a great support atm but it's not because he can't be a support, it's because other mage sups are just better if i'm being frank, they scale similar or have just better synergy with other champs.

You give me a good velkoz and even i can play ADC; you get that Velkoz fed and it'll be even easier.

With limited amounts of Tanks as well as many ppl not valuing CC the way they should I would say if you are a AD you should be welcoming your Mage Overlords; Cause if your team is Aatrox, Yi, Zed, YOU AD and nobody is going to start fights since nobody has CC, you should be happy gettting something like that cause you would have a better chance with Zyra then you will with Raka

Maybe if you played a real support. Your adcs wouldn't be so "trash" cuz they would stop playing a 2v1 Lane and actually have a 2v2... Idk just a supports perspective on scum like you..

Well, mages get pushed to support by assassins on mid because they don't fit anywhere else and they bring more utility with poke and cc on a lane that suits their kit best (the former poking and ccing). If they go top, melee top laners complain that ranged champs are cancerous and they usually get gutted. Jungle is a terrible option for mana hungry mages that would struggle to clear stuff. If they show signs of potentially being good to be APC with a support next to them, they get nerfed. So they have to change other lanes in order to push immobile mages away from support, so it's not that simple.

I personally don't mind mage support if they do get the supportive items along with their core damage item. A Lux with item 3174 and maybe item 3504 can still save and buff the ADC while they do their thing. Main ones I have the problem is that they just go for a mid lane build on a support income and abandon the ADC whenever the feel like it.

A Velkoz can even peel just fine with a item 3116 can pretty much halt almost anything that's not MasterYi or Olaf in place. With a fairly good cc in good conditions.

I feel if they take on the support mind set and use their abilities to setup, protect and interrupt for the team. Over trying to play like a mid laner would make things so much nicer.

I used to not mind mage supports before Sightstone was removed.

Occasionally, Zyra would become an unbalanced nightmare and a must-ban, but most of the time they were high risk picks that you could easily outplay by enduring the laning phase before the first back.

On first back you could buy a Sightstone that gave vision and health which equals more defense, and they'd have to make a choice. Do I build more damage, or do I get vision? They made this choice understanding that the damage they do could get them a pick, but it could also just zone the enemy out, or worse the ADC could push up and leave them open to a gank when they're already vulnerable without wards. It was a high risk for a high reward. Now thanks to Spellthief's mages have no risk and high reward.

It wasn't perfect, especially if you were a low ELO solo ADC main, but it was decently balanced. Now they immediately build damage and you get chunked so easily by the spells they spam. I really cannot think of a mage support that is in a balanced position, and their dominance in the bot lane pushes out some of the tank supports that don't rely on absurd hook hitboxes like Blitzcrank or Nautilus. Speaking of hitboxes, some of the mages even have dumb ones like Morgana's Q that can completely miss you visually, but result in you being locked down anyways. Stuff like that makes the matchup feel even more unfair.

The fact that they're still a problem even when horribly unbalanced champions like Pyke and Yuumi were floating around says enough. They either gotta go, or mage players need to sacrifice something again. I do understand that some people pick mage supports because their team goes all AD, but that's still not an excuse for how horrible it is to play against them now that they go straight into damage.
