The way ranking actually works, the placement matches needed to go up and down rank, it needs to go

I dont know if this has been brought up, but i recently saw in a post the dev's are trying to do something about ranked, has anyone ever floated the idea of just completly getting rid of the placement matches needed to move up in ranks(the placements before the start of the season are fine), im just talkin about those placement matches that need to be won, so i can go from bronze III>II,

I dont understand why this is even in place, how does it serve the community, example, I won like 4-5 matches in a row, get to bronzeIII placements, lose 2, down 34 lp, why do we even have this system, Overwatch just has players compete and you get ranks based on just winning or losing, not doing some out of date placement matches where if you lose, your way down. So i did see recently they give 1 win sometimes to get past it, how about just getting rid of the whole system, and making it just based on Wins and Loses,

can a dev give me good reasons why this system is still in place and how it benefits Ranked Players and Ranked Games

Thank you

What you're talking about is promotion series (placements, as you are aware, is used to refer to something else). And yes, they mentioned in the same article you're referring to that they would be looking at what to do with the promotion system.

Promotion Series - We know that too many promos have become a source of frustration. We're seriously examining the current promotion system and will be making changes to shift the role it plays in our competitive ecosystem.

It's the counterbalance to demotion protection. Especially the absolutely ridiculous amount of protection you get at the bottom of tiers

I am not a dev. The stated benefits are they add "excitement!" and spice up ranked Grind. They also compensate for demotion protection Riot gives players.

They could be used to keep Ranks skill to MMR a closer value, but theres no information on If riot does that.

or they just have it like the old way for the most part, aka far better, purely mmr, none of this tier shit with 100lp then dumb promo games you cant even dodge when in a shit lobby, every 100 lp is D4/3/2/1 ect ect, no promos they're terrible how it's been made for years

You can use promos to try and keep ranks as a stable representation of skill, if done right. Change MMR during promo's to represent the average of the rank if some one is a lower value to keep people who are gonna deadweight in that MMR out of it. Promo helper means that a majority of players can climb with even 50% WR during promos.

Promos do a good job of keeping cherry pickers from getting abnormally high. "I only play games my teammates look like they can carry me easy." is not a great representation of personal skill. RNG sucks when you get dicked by it, but its fair to everybody equally.

So it can keep ranks a bit more accurate as skill representations, if done right. Does Riot? No clue. A lot of it is on the Dev to care for MM integrity.

A pure MMR would remove LP completely. It would end up looking a lot like this I expect if they used Standard titles, thou they would likely have more Titles for smaller ranges.

Senior master 2400 and up National master 2200–2399 Expert 2000–2199 Class A 1800–1999 Class B 1600–1799 Class C 1400–1599 Class D 1200–1399 Class E 1000–1199 Class F 800–999 Class G 600–799 Class H 400–599 Class I 200–399 Class J 100–199

The issue I have is a some devs Fake a MMR value. Blizzard had 2. There was hidden MMR then a Fake slower moving "MMR" you could see. People rage when they get stuck so a lot of devs make a Fake "climb" Built off a catchup mechanic where sitting near 50% collapses your visible rank towards your hidden value.
