Forfeiting in League of Legends

Dear Riot,

I have been playing League of Legends for a while now and love the game. One thing that is constantly bothering me is the extremely toxic community, specifically the tilt. League of Legends players seemingly have absolutely no sportsmanship. The option to forfeit is completely redundant and creates another reason for toxicity in the community.

I cannot tell you how many games I've played where I'm having the time of my life trying to come back from a deficit, and my team decides to forfeit. The option to forfeit discourages people from trying to improve their game because "oh well, I can just start a new game". It creates the exact opposite mentality that people look for in a team game.

League of Legends and Esports in general have blown up in the past few years, and many look to Esports as an alternative to classic sports like hokey, soccer, and baseball. With this kind of growing reputation, why would Riot Games want to have an option to forfeit? In what other professional sport can players vote to forfeit their game? In any other sport, if a player were to give up and walk off the field/court/diamond, they would be ridiculed as unsportsmanlike.

I realise removing the ability to forfeit could cause some extra toxicity and cause an increase in AFKing, leaving games, and trolling/intentionally feeding. However, if Riot Games cracks down on toxic players, I think the general community will turn around and see League of Legends for what it is - a team-based game where ANYTHING can happen (I've seen both nexus turrets down and the losing team still ends up winning). I think the toxicity can be healed with time, and removing forfeiting would help.

In essence, forfeiting is an unsportsmanlike way to ruin the experiences of players who are actually trying to improve their game. It is extremely frustrating when my team gives up after dying twice within 10 minutes and decides to forfeit the game. Removing the ability to forfeit a game would encourage people to keep trying to get that win.

Thanks, A A Ron1867

Coming back from a deficit as a strong point is arguably a bad skill to have in the first place. Why sit there for a extra 5 - 35 minutes every game you fuck up early or mid game learning how to redeem a mess? Wouldn't it be better to get into a fresh game and work on not screwing the game up to the point where you have to learn how to basically turtle and stall until a lucky mess up on the enemy into generally a baron -> Nexus charge.

Being perfectly honest here removing the ability to forfeit is just going to drastically increase the number of people running it down mid, flaming, and trolling. There isn't going to be just "some extra toxicity" it'll greatly increase. That is mainly because having just 2 people on the team with your mindset can hold 3 players hostage in a match they don't wish to be in any longer. Actually to those other 3 that agreed the 2 no surrender voters are arguably more toxic than the Riven yelling about no ganks and taking hits in chat at everyone.

It's one thing I find interesting about watching asian streamers. They tend to recognize the odds of winning are too low to be worth the effort and surrender after bad play turns into a major deficit in solo queue unlike our western societies where we have to go kicking and screaming to the bitter end and still more than likely lose the game.

A good analogy to use would be if you say got into competitive boxing or martial arts would you rather learn how to win before you get two black eyes and a concussion or would you stubbornly prefer to learn how to achieve victory after the enemy used you as a sand bag for the whole match and inflicted possibly grievous injuries to your future fights? Continuing and getting used to losing games can mentally train or allow you to not adjust play that makes the deficit matches happen.

This is litterally the worst opinion. You have to have toxicity flowing in your blood to even formulate a take like this.

ping mute and chat mute. no excuse to complain at this point. I hate to have to mute people every game, but that's just how it is.

I wrote RIOT 2 years and and also again last week, suggesting the removal of the button. It creates a harmful environment of toxicity and discourages the community from trying harder and playing till the end. Many games are lost when they are winnable and this must stop. I have never clicked the quit button one time not even as a joke. It is a serious crime in LOL and needs policing.
