We could have URF live within the hour and this is how

MMJG··6 votes·1,329 views

It's simple mathematics, or rather, economics. Companies, especially service orientated ones, are dependent on the customer satisfaction with the service. Even more, lol is free to play and in order to really create revenues, they have to exceed the customers expectation to make them pay for something that is actually possible to enjoy free of charge, I.E in business terms; create added value to the service. In our context, it's simple giving what the majority of the customers want, which is URF. Neglecting that is not necessary a mistake on their part as long people continue to pay for skins and play the game. The investors won't care as long as their return of equity isn't endangered. Hypothetically, if all the lol users stop playing and buying skins, the investors would pick up the phone and call the corporate managers and within the hour we would have URF live, I guarantee you that. The developers have no say in it, they would have to, even if they don't want to admit their mistake and satisfy the customers.

I've seen people in the comments stating that "lol community is so toxic", "you don't deserve URF", "it's their company, they do what they want". In politics if the current government opposes their voters they will not rule a second term, which may take up to 4 years before a new election starts. In business economics however, you may have to file for bankrupt within the period if a week, especially if the company is listed on stock exchange. It's not our company, the customers aren't always right, but we have the goddamn power. Neglecting that can cause severe consequences.

Realistically though, this won't happen. Not because they are "too big to fall", but because people. People are people and there will always be people that won't consistently boycott lol. But we can make them listen to us, we could make those investors pick up the phone.

URF is a shit game mode and I'm not going to bankrupt Riot because I didn't get my way, after being told a month in advance I wouldn't get it my way.

You may not like URF, but i bet the majority does.

The amount of people who aren't upset over URF is far greater than the number who are. You just have a very very very vocal and whiny majority.

They clearly indicated it wasn't going to be released this April. Yeah they said that last year but you could just tell it was serious this time. Even if I was looking forward to it because I do enjoy the game mode.... it's not that big of a deal. It's just a game. They mentioned they are working on the rotation queue mode which is something I will enjoy even more than these semi-annual game modes.

Your post idea was to stop buying from Riot so that they would be forced to either release URF or go broke. Either option is terrible and immature. You need to learn how the real world works--in the real world, you don't do something so harmful and asinine because you didn't get you way over a video game. You compared it to a corrupt politician but that is a terrible analogy. The political policies pushed by that politician and their office affect your every day life and can even be harmful or threatening to you. A choice made in a game that you DON'T HAVE TO PLAY if it is no longer of interest to you is hardly something to be up in arms about. Seriously, if them not releasing URF was the metaphorical straw that broke the metaphorical camel's back, then log out. Uninstall. And quit playing.

I'm gonna answer this by approaching each claim in orderly fashion.

Answer: It does not really matter if they announced that they would not release URF this April. The fact that URF didn't go live is sufficient. They know that the community likes the game mode and even expect it, still they choose not to release it. Why? Because they have other plans. If so, they have to adress the expectation propely. Really convincing people that this April is our of the ordinary and as a substitute, release something better or equal as good. But they have instead disapoint the community and won't even comment on it. They are silence and that's a sign of lack of respect.

Answer: Let's put that in perspective. Lets say you don't like IKEAs furniture. You bought them once, but was disappointed. Therefore, you stop buying their products. If many people agree with you and the company does not adapt, its not fit for the market and another company comes around which can supply the demand. It's economics. Its not immature, it's how the world works. So is this harmful? Should we all consume shit products just because "there are jobs at stake" and "it's harmful for the investors"?

You compared it to a corrupt politician but that is a terrible analogy. The political policies pushed by that politician and their office affect your every day life and can even be harmful or threatening to you

Answer: I did not compare it to corrupt politicians. You can oppose the voters with the election promises without being corrupt. That's not my point. My point is that you have to listen to the people you depend on.

A choice made in a game that you DON'T HAVE TO PLAY if it is no longer of interest to you is hardly something to be up in arms about. Seriously, if them not releasing URF was the metaphorical straw that broke the metaphorical camel's back, then log out. Uninstall. And quit playing.

Answer: I'm not in arms. I am only discussing, I'm not encouraging people to "arm up". I'm discussion how Riot is not playing by the terms of conducting business and will not survive in the long run. This is post I made after I saw comments about how the users are in debt to riot and riot are gods, even with the fail Draven campaign. I think that's wrong, so i started this discussion. That's it. Don't read stuff into it.

1.) They announced it wouldn't happen. Point blank. So for everyone expecting it and sincerely angered by the fact that it isn't here... well they told you it's not going to be. They have a substitute in the works, which is the rotating queue. Which is actually something plenty of people asked for so they are doing just a fine job of listening to their customers and trying to establish something that they would enjoy in this regard. Your argument here is literally nothing. You're saying "We like URF, they should have released it because we like it so much even though they explicitly stated it won't be happening this year. You are working on a substitute and offered a different April Fools joke that I didn't care for so that makes you a stupid company who is terrible at making decisions because I don't personally agree with what you decided to do."

2.) If I don't like IKEA furniture, you're right I won't buy it anymore. But I also wont stand outside of the IKEA store and picket fence and tell people not to shop there because I'm personally upset. Like before, however, you've used another poor analogy. I like Riot, so using your same analogy lets say that I in fact DO like Ikea furniture. Then they release a piece of furniture that I don't like or that doesn't meet my expectations. So using your logic I should never buy from them again and should convince everyone to shopping from there because they did something I didn't like while overall I enjoy their furniture and company as a whole.

3.) Okay, I'll admit corrupt might not have been the best choice of words, but you're really just arguing semantics at that point. The idea of what I said is that when it comes to real world politics that affect your every day life including things like public safety, human rights and financial security the idea of boycotting or otherwise trying to put and end to something you disagree with is ENTIRELY different than trying to bankrupt a company and cause people jobs because they made a decision about a FREE TO PLAY game that you DO NOT HAVE TO PLAY. IF you seriously are this upset, don't play the game. Don't spend your money on it and move the fuck on with your life.

4.) You're not discussing anything. You're encouraging people to basically hold a gun to Riot's head and say "If you don't release URF then we will never buy anything from you again in an attempt to ruin your company. So you BETTER release URF or I'm going to pull this trigger." That sounds pretty up in arms to me. I don't understand what you mean by the "in debt to Riot" and "Riot are gods" little bit because it makes no sense and is entirely unrelated. The only thing I'm gathering here is that you saw people who enjoyed what Riot did and think they are stupid because their viewpoint doesn't align with yours. If I'm misreading that, please correct me.

urf is fucking terrible

95% of the player base does not care about URF, in the way you do. It is not a make or break for playing the game. Also for every must have URF pleb there is at least one not going to play URF person.

URF is not universally loved and you people need to learn that.

why is it always the bronze players that want URF?

Yeah, it's your calling. You have to educate people on what they like and do not like.

Your whole thread is subjective. You cant claim subjective when asking why people do not like something. see the following

{quoted}

So, you are not upset? If not, why?

I am not sure why you want sauce. This is not a food item.

for the rest of the stuff check out my response to SupportinYourElo in this thread. I even include my sauce (in NA called source). Well not a direct source; you are not worth me looking up riot comments over a year old from the times of goth Annie disputes and this boards release.

I find your subjective arguments funny when you have a completely subjective topic. You are asking me to fight you with logic when you are only using your POV as an argument.

MMJG1 votes

You are really making me face palm. First off, sauce is often used on internet referring to source, got that habit years ago from 4chan. You are not educating me on how to spell, you are doing a poor job yourself and I'm from Sweden.

URF is not really the topic here, the topic is the disappointment of 1st of April. They did not release URF, which** I believe** many like (you see what i did there? I added that it's my personal opinion and not based on facts. You should learn, I might even bolt it so you can learn), but they did not even release rotation game, nothing except this poorly made Draven day. On that, they won't address the disappointment.

It is a theoretical topic - a what if topic based on a view from business economy. That does not mean everything in the discussion is subjective. It's logical. You on the other hand are not logical and mostly aggressive.

Edit: I laughed so hard, i just have to add this;

you are not worth me looking up riot comments over a year old from the times of goth Annie disputes and this boards release.

You are not worth me? Haha, please grammar. Also, your understanding of what a source is makes me laugh. You think that a legitimate source is comments on a forum board. I'd really like to see a thesis you've written and see the reference list --> "Forum this, Forum that". You would never survive a university.

95% of the player base does not care about URF

Where did you get that theoretical number from?

Angry Monster1 votes

riot says the boards represent about 5% of the player base.

If the boards as a whole is that, and i would say at most 1/10th (and this high) of the board users care about urf. You are talking actually small % of players overall that give a shit about URF.

You need to understand 2 things. The first is that even if people enjoy URF; it does not mean it becomes a must have for them. When it comes and goes they do not freak out. They may get upset if riot said it was happening on X date and didst, but that is cause of a unfilled promise not cause of URF.

Second that the majority of the board users do not represent non board users. In fact if you are a board user (regular) you are most likely against the desires of the rest of the community.

My friends and I just come to the boards to get all the tilt out of our systems for rank. Things like this topic truly make me say what is wrong with you people.

good job not reading. I said that they do not care if it is here or not. They are ambivalent if it is urf or another mode.

The URF or else people think they are representing something when they are not.

If not, why?

Because U.R.F is overrated and not even fun after 2-3 games. You see the same stupid champions played every match, people only splitpush instead of trying out teamfights with a million skillshots flying around and U.R.F meta is stupid.

Actually, he's completely right - URF would be enabled immediately if the community as a whole decides to protest by not playing and not buying stuff.

Thing is, that will never happen because it's impossible to unite a community as large as the LoL-Communiti in a reasonable amount of time and with reasonable resources. ^^

It doesnt matter how riddculous something is, if a large number of people wants it, they'll get it. Say if 90% of all Americans would be join forces and refuse to work or buy things until they paint the White House pink! Hell, they would launch rockets filled with dye to be as fast as possible. xD

Still, this will never happen. =P

Do you people seriously believe that giving us URF is as simple as hitting an "on" button? If the whole community abandoned the game Riot would shit themselves but they'd also be aware that there's absolutely nothing they could do. URF isn't ready and wouldn't be ready for weeks.

MMJG1 votes

That's my point. The magic happens when a company bleeds money. Riot might even... hold on to your pants.. listen to the community

It's also quite sad that you'd attempt to ruin a company and cause people to lose their jobs because you didn't get your way. That's what an immature child would do.

It's great that you understand economics, it's just a pity that you don't understand anything else involved in delivering products and services. For example, creating those products and services.

I've seen more magical and unnatural miracles than turning on a game mode. If it takes some time, sure, then tell the community this. Like "We are sorry we screwed up, we are gonna release URF, but it will take 3 days".

Well the whole reason they've not said anything is because "We're going to turn on URF, but it'll take some time" wouldn't really achieve anything. By the time URF was ready to go to live April Fools would be long gone and at that point there'll be no significant difference between waiting for URF to come in the rotating gamemode queue and waiting for URF to come as quickly as Riot can put it out. Three days is unrealistically short but even if they could do it in three days, April 6th has no significant to April Fools. At that stage it's not "We want URF on April Fools cos that's tradition!", it's just "We want URF quickly cos we're impatient!".

You have no idea what goes into making a gamemode - if it was as simple as doing it in as little as a few days we would have URF right now because they would have had time to make it. But we don't. If everyone stopped playing LoL then sure Riot would want to do something but they can't just pull miracles out of nowhere.

Just get over the fact that URF can't happen. Riot will get the rotating queue out as fast as they can but that's all they can do.

MMJG1 votes

Some good points made, i agree.But;

Well the whole reason they've not said anything is because "We're going to turn on URF, but it'll take some time" wouldn't really achieve anything.

It's never wrong to inform people on the progress of the situation. For instance, if you are on your way to work and the bus is late. Would it matter if transport company informed people on how long the delay will be? Would it be OK for airlane companies to not inform travelers if there is a delay? Would it matter? Of course it would and I hope I don't have to tell you why.

Trylobyte2 votes

Sure, if a huge portion of the community boycotted the company they'd probably do something. But I think you, and many of the rest of the 'URF NOW!' crowd, grossly overestimate the percentage of people who care enough to change their activity in any meaningful way. I'd wager its not even 1%. And among them, how many buy RP in sufficient enough quantity for Riot to worry about losing their business? An even smaller segment. And even then, how long would those people who do care hold up their boycott? A month or two? In the meantime Riot will carry on doing what they do, bringing in new customers with new features like the rotating game modes and generally ignoring the 'protesters' because they're not a significant enough blip to worry about.

MMJG1 votes

Since there is no statistically basis to find out the percentages, we can only guess. But, I think there is enough people who like the URF mode more than new lame skins and some .jpg of draven in normal games. That should be enough for Riot to listen. The problem is that they haven't adressed the concern and they have not given a substitute, for instance a game mode, to celebrate April.

The question, though, is like I said. Of that group, how many would be willing to significantly change their habits? Not a whole lot, I bet. That's the problem with most boycotts, or with protesting in general - It's easy to say you'll take part, but few people actually do it.

MMJG1 votes

I agree. But it is possible. And its not necessary for a 100 % successful boycott rate. A 5-10 % decline in revenues is sufficient to make them to listen. And that's the goal.

A 5% reduction in revenue would require, on average, the consistent, dependable support of about one and a half million players.

Good luck!

With your logic, a big company in the size of Riot cannot suffer loss of 5 % decline in revenues because people are not liking their way of providing the service. For you, it's crazy. But I guarantee, it have happened before.

Nah, I'm saying that while it could happen, it's not very likely. You'd need to convince a group of diverse people roughly the size of the city of Philadelphia to boycott a company that makes a product they enjoy (after all, if they didn't enjoy it, why would they be here) over a minor issue. Most people, while they might care, don't care that much. It's just a hell of a lot easier to make a forum post and complain about it, or click a little 'upvote' arrow, than it is to take any sort of action about it.

riot couldn't release urf because their sh it used servers couldn't have handled the amount of people that would have logged on. URF didn't come out for any other reason than riot doesn't put money back into their game to make it better for their players.

If that's the case, its bad. It's real bad. But since, Riot haven't announced anything, they are completely silence and we are forced to create theories and that is on them. Not us.
