"Ekko fares pretty well against mages..."

E - Phase Dive COOLDOWN 11/10/9/8/7 seconds ⇒ 9/8.5/8/7.5/7 seconds

"Ekko fares pretty well against mages when his cooldowns are up, so we’re giving him the tools to engage more often."

??? How does this sound to you: "Yi kills pretty well when his cooldowns are up, so we're giving him the tools to engage more often." "Morgana initiates pretty well when her cooldowns are up, so we're giving her the tools to engage more often." "Yasuo looks pretty cool when his cooldowns are up, so we're giving him the tools to engage more often."

You can literally make this statement about any champion as an empty justification to buff them. What this statement needed was some actual reason to buff him like (not that this is true, but for the sake of example):

"Ekko suffers against mages too often because of his long cooldowns, so we're reducing the cooldown of his E to give him the tools to engage more often".

The way Riot has justified this buff, they've essentially said "Ekko does this well, so we're giving him the tools to do it better". Why though?

They basically said "we know Ekko is fine but we're buffing him anyway for pro play" saying "Ekko fares pretty well against mages when his cooldowns are up, so we’re giving him the tools to engage more often". I stopped playing my favourite role (support) just to avoid cancer Draven withitem 3812 and now if Ekko becomes meta I'll have to quit this game until he will be fixed, I just love league of legends so much.

When will Riot learn this shit WILL NOT make more people care about LCS?

I don't know why they worded it like that, but maybe they meant "He fares pretty well against mages, but often struggles to engage upon certain matchups with hard to miss cc, like Syndra Annie, since he's meant to be good against mages, we're giving him a slight CD buff on his engage, so he can better work around these match-ups' CC cooldowns."

PS. I think he admitted it was for pro play, but had he worded it like that it would've looked better I guess.

Mark my words, next week's top most upvoted Gameplay thread will be: "Ekko has XX% win rate please nerf".

Almighty.

Ekko ONLY does well against mages when his CDs are up is probably what they were going with. Playing Ekko with E on cd is awful because there is literally nothing you can do besides take the punishment. Ekko HAS to be the one to start the fight in mid lane or he just gets poked down and loses. The only think Ekko can do against the likes of Orianna (who can Q+W+Auto him basically on cooldown because ranged vs melee) is wave clear and all in when she does it and hope he trades better. The problem is his E is on a longer cooldown than most other mid laners poke spells so he has to at least take every other one to the face or just sit under tower and waveclear.

I think his Q should have been hit in tandem with this, but allowing Ekko to trade more often WILL lower the likelihood he is just afk spamming Q in lane while also making him use more of his mana on his other abilities.

What they should have said was "Ekko's E is his only initiation against mages. Because of this he gets punished pretty hard in the early game so we are decreasing his early game cooldowns to help him out"
