Players who rage quit and go afk have cost me far too many games. In return, I have lost crap tons of LP making it feel impossible to climb. Why doesn't @Riot Make it so that if there is an AFK player on the team, and the game ends while they are afk or Disconnected. The losing team should have no penalty to their LP. It seems only fair.
Because it can get abused.

Unfortunately most of the games where I am roped in with a player who goes afk, they never actually quit; they'll move around in base, making a point to not contribute. Seeing how the system in place that punishes players who go afk is almost completely automated, it becomes very hard to distinguish these types of people.
I've always liked the idea of compensation, but the infrastructure is not tuned enough to separate the people who intentionally try to ruin games vs the ones who become victim to accidents beyond their control.
LP won't affect MMR (so losing will still affect it even with the afk) and DOTA2 has a similar system iirc. Overwatch also does but admittedly more abusable. The last man standing gets the penalty while everyone else walks free...bs. But yeah, if Riot handles it correctly then I can agree on this. Decreased LP loss would fit better though since you still in fact lost.
AFK guy gets harshly punished. AFK team gets some form of protection (very decreased LP loss or no LP loss). Other team gets small LP gain.
If the teams are balanced. Then 1 AFK means it is a completely unfair game. It isn't right to punish the other team for luck, so give them LP but not too much just because they got lucky.

when you want to make it fair, you also shouldn't get LP when you win while the enemies have an afk.
"I'm doing bad, so let me leave to save my friends lp from dropping" "just give them a higher penalty for leaving to stop that" "oh shit, my sister is in labor. I have to leave right now to go to the hospital. -comes back and see they lost 57 lp, was demoted, has a 30 min wait time for 10 games, lost 4 champions, all their hextech loot, and next penalty is death-, well, guess I'm done with League now "
Some people have suggested the AFK player lose the combined lp total of the 4 players who didn't disconnect to make up for it.
