His early game is relatively weak as he needs to spend more time farming than others to get gold due to his range which is still about mid-sized, and while it's true that he still does pump out a lot of damage, much of that damage is over-time and not instant which is mostly done through his voidlings which now act as something of a deterrent against getting too close and attacking him while at the same time providing a source of sustained damage, providing ample opportunity to fight back with champs who have superior range. The only thing potentially overpowered about Malzahar is his passive which can be procced and wasted just by auto-attacking him, and since most mages have ranged autoattacks, it becomes infinitely easier to trigger it and render his damage immunity absent at which point you go in on him.

He's not overpowered: his damage was just more spread out so it takes slightly longer to build up, and in return for playing patiently he is rewarded in mid-game with his army of voidlings. Malzahar's rework was very fair, and while it's true that his passive prevents him from being knocked out of his ult with one cc ability, that just means you have to put together a team comp with more than one interrupt, or play someone like Viktor who can interrupt channeled abilities.

"Tweaked" is an understatement.

He needs to just be reverted, the rework was a total failure in terms of identity retention. I even compared what they were apparently trying to do, with what was actually accomplished. ( http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/Ag06yxmK-after-a-hand-full-of-games-on-malzahar )
