My own teammates keep banning the champion that I am hovering in champion select

A known problem that I've seen in champion select on numerous occasions, is a teammate banning the champion that you were wanting to play, usually out of spite, or simply them just not paying attention. Either way, this is a very frustrating thing to deal with. I think it could be very healthy to implement a way to make it so that your teammates are not able to ban the champion that you are planning to pick, or at least make a warning box pop up that tells them "(Summoner) wants to play (Champion), are you sure you want to ban this champion?" There just needs to be some way that players can't abuse bans and troll their own teammates by banning their picks, because it happens far more often than you would think. Pls Rito, make it stop. item 3070 item 3070

I always ban Yasuo regardless of if he's on my team or not

You are doing the world a great service.

Ehhhhhhh.

It's kind of a dick move to ban your teammates champion, no matter how much you may dislike that champion.

I have yet to find a Yasuo player that isn't either a jerk to his team, salty and will blame everyone else, afk / int feed, or just wont stop being a toxic dick in general. Yasuo players are the worst players imo.

VoidStaresBack1 votes

Well in that case, why not just mute them the moment the game starts rather than ban their champion and have the rage-trolling screw up the game even more when dealing with toxic Yasuos?

Best Kog NA1 votes

Because while the enemy is my enemy, having them play against a Yasuo pretty much insta tilts them. That's not a healthy champion. I mostly play norms which are supposed to be fun, Yasuo isn't fun to play against. I want to win, just not by tilting the other 5 people.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

cuz if you ban their champ the are most likely to dodge and you dont have to play with them at all

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

Muting doesn't make them stop feeding the enemy team or ping spamming you.

Better to find out if they are toxic before the game starts when I still have the option of dodging.

Its also a dick-move to play Yasuo.

lol im with you ... i cant stand that champ

Aaaand, how exactly do you envision them to do that? Limiting bans to champions that are not hovered opens up a whole new avenue of trolling, and defies the purpose of having 3 people able to ban what they want...which is ban what THEY want.

If teammates are banning what someone hovers over ALL THE TIME, then I guess there are only a few explanations:

  1. Off-meta champs that people don't want in their teams
  2. Pregame-behaviour that incites them to wanna do that

If something happens to you all the time, with different people, then its time to think about the possibility, that the cause may be on your side.

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

Alternatively, they could be trying to play Yasuo.

Either way, I agree with you.

"Off-meta champs that people don't want in their teams" - This is ridiculous. This furthers my point. Just because THEY don't want to play with it on their team, does not mean that YOU should not get to play it. It's not fair to the person who just might LOVE playing Teemo in the jungle. Just because you don't view it as meta, doesn't mean you should forcibly be able to remove that champion from their list of choices. I do see your point, but don't shoot mine down so hastily. I don't know exactly how I envision them to execute such a change, all I'm asking is that there is SOME sort of way to prevent this from happening so often, or they at least take a look into it and see if it sparks any healthy changes that Riot may like to make.

Just because THEY don't want to play with it on their team, does not mean that YOU should not get to play it.

Wrong. That's exactly what it means. The purpose of a ban is to prevent it from appearing in the game. When I ban something, I don't want to see it, period. You simply don't get a say in that decision.

I don't have to justify my ban to you, I don't have to ask your permission. You could argue that that's bad team-spirit. And that's true. But so is playing a non-meta pick and lowering 4 other peoples chances of winning the game.

It's not fair to the person who just might LOVE playing Teemo in the jungle.

Ahhhhhh, here we are. You play something that is not only off-meta, but also bad. It lowers other peoples chance of winning their game. Why should they just accept that?

You ask that no one gets a say in your decision what champion you wanna play. Very well. Noone does.

Just like you are not getting a say in others peoples decision what they want to ban.

Just because you don't view it as meta

Its not meta, no matter how much you like it. Meta means "Most efficient tactic available". Jungle Teemo is not the most efficient tactic.

all I'm asking is that there is SOME sort of way to prevent this from happening so often, or they at least take a look into it and see if it sparks any healthy changes that Riot may like to make.

Newsflash: The fact that there are three bans which cannot be inhibited in any way, and are done by 3 different players, is healthy. Why? Because the overwhelming majority of the community says so.

Non meta picks cant lower what peoples chances of winning first thing is meta is decided in plat thats the top 10% of players meaning it isnt relevant in 90% of cases. next meta is average player you are playing with individuals. next that individual may be worse with what you consider meta than what you dont. next meta is also dictated by champion popularity some champions just arent popular and and by virtue of them not being popular people dont know how to play against them. (i used aatrox darius yorick urgot and taric to climb in season 5 and did well until they reworked darius and changed the meta to more free stats on ranged champions none of them were popular and no one how how to beat them)

sigh

That old story again. No, the meta is not decided in plat. The meta is decided by "what works". Teemo Jungle works badly in all ELOs, because hes a bad jungler, compared to other options.

That is a mechanical fact, and has nothing to do with the ELO you are playing on. A silver teemo jungler will be worse than a silver Nunu, just as a Dia Teemo ungler will be worse than a Dia Nunu.

next that individual may be worse with what you consider meta than what you dont.

That's not my problem. If someone can't play meta champions, then someone should consider learning them.

next meta is also dictated by champion popularity some champions just arent popular

Wrong. Urgot was the most unpopular champion for 3 years. He became meta mid-season 5 in a matter of days.

and by virtue of them not being popular people dont know how to play against them

Bronze players don't. Everyone who knows which side of the keyboard the buttons are on, does.

Maybe the behavior could be flagged and make it to the tribunal for a series of evaluations to see if it's truly a ban the player wanted or he is just trolling randomly banning team champs for no reason.

DeathBurst1 votes

There isn't any simple solution that Riot can realistically put in place.

Just report this kind of people, and in the long run it should be better.

In the short run, though... depends on the actual reason they are doing it:

  • out of spite, to troll you: well, they must have a reason to be spiteful, and in that case that's kinda predictable, so just don't show your real pick.
  • because you're playing something off-meta: easy, don't show your real pick (but try to show something relatively similar in terms of tankyness/CC, for the people who actually check and try to round-up a team comp)
  • because they don't want the enemy team to get this champ: if you're not first pick, that's actually a legitimate case, I'd say. Try to ask for a swap or something before bans happen, but if no one can swap, they are in their right to ban your intended pick
  • because they just don't pay attention to what you showed: there, you're out-of-luck, but that shouldn't happen SOOO often
