Should your champion pool change with the Meta?

So u have struggled a lot with getting my champion pool the way I want it. I can't do a one trick pony it is just too dull and when it gets too big I start losing games. With the new champion select in place my pool can be even smaller now since I'll get one of my two main roles (Jungle and Support), I won't have to have Mid or Adc champions in my pool, (I sometimes play top. Problem is sometimes when the meta shifts one of my champions in my pool will get really hard to play and than I don't end up playing them since there not strong enough to handle what other champions are in play.

So should my champion pool change as the game changes or should I stick with my champions and play them no matter what happens in the game?

Pool: champions I mainly play in ranked

Support: Bard and Leona (Janna is my back up) Jungle: Rammus, Amumu, and Diana (Elise was in my pool about Mid of last year and she just wasn't keeping up so I put her in the back burner, but now she is back in the meta so should I put her back in my pool?) Top: Quinn and Cho'gath (Illaoi as back up)

Tha k in advance for your comments

play what you like

meta does not matter in Bronze 3 if you become skilled enough with any one particular champion or set of champions, you'll be able to carry games with it/them.

most important thing to remember is to play to improve, not to win. failing all else, play for fun.

I can see that there are still awesome people out there mate =] Winning should be a by product of getting better ^.^ Seriously though take my upvote! :)

I have a list on my desk, for the purposes of keeping me focused of three champs per role, for the following roles: Jungle, Top, Mid, Bot, Support Tank, Support Mage

To answer your question, I'd keep my #1 spot on each list a constant, I'd change the bottom 2 based on the Meta.

Personally, I think it's best to have a pool rather than a 'main'. It allows you to be more objective of champion strength and makes you more flexible without having to memorize every detail of each matchup for a given champ. I don't think meta matters too much in most cases, but in some situations it can be better to follow the meta just because you're more likely to get a cohesive comp that got mirrored from common LCS comps--which means it should function as a whole better.

Honestly, in Solo Queue you might as well play whatever you want. Unless you have a decent sized premade cohesion is going to be lacking enough that the meta won't affect gameplay enough to matter.

To be honest I feel if you play them correctly any champion can be viable in any situation :P for example keep playing who you love, but change runes/masteries/items to suit the meta! I'm a talon main and atm mid lane(atleast for me) Has been over-run with mages as opposed to how I always used to fight yasuos. So more often than not not I'll rush aitem 3156 :) If I'm against a yas or zed I'd probably just go tiamat(even though they nerfed it and made it's build path really weird while also removing brutilizer) >. <. If for some reason I decided to go top lane and fought someone stracking armor I would probably go black cleaver(I probably wouldn't rush last whisper after they changed it though.) Not exactly different metas.. but you can always change your build to match the situation :D Assassin j4 mid for example :P Take this all with a grain of salt though as I'm bronze.. but as the other guy said.. be sure that you're always playing for fun! See you on the rift mate :)

No and yes. You want to have mains for your regular roles, which usually arent banned, but you also want to know how to play the meta.

Stick with a handful of mains until you're quite comfortable with them, but don't be afraid to try new champs occasionally (not necessarily even meta strong ones). A number of champs I only ever got into as a side effect of having them thrown upon me during ARAM (or that featured mode where people chose the opposing teams champs), and I discovered 'oh hey, this is actually kinda fun', and then I played more of them in normals, until eventually they become comfortable enough picks for ranked.

A lot of skills are fairly transferable between champs as well and not so much about the particular champion (e.g. positioning/last hitting). Theres some small differences based on the relative tankiness and AA speeds and so forth, but a huge portion of the skill in the game isn't so much about mastery over a particular champions mechanics, but rather being able to read the game state and make appropriate decisions based on that. You can be in a hugely unfavourable matchup, but if you're situationally aware enough to never actually put yourself in a situation where you can be killed, you can eventually wait for the opponent to do something foolish and then win off of their mistakes.

Thanks for your guy's comments really appreciate it. Is there any good websites you use to keep up with which champion is doing good at the current time? So far Champion GG looks good.

I was a silver 2 last season, not that that's anything to boast about, and I really would like to end up in Gold by the end of this season. While I do play because it is fun, my main goal is to improve and climb at least to Gold 5 by the end of the season. I usually do my own evaluation of myself after each game, weather I lose or win, and decide if I played good that round or not. Appreciate the comments once again, This will help me find a good balance between playing champs i've always played and sticking to the meta as well.
