Soraka and Executioner's Calling

I hadn't played LOL for about 2 years. I came back and was really starting to enjoy playing again. I've always loved healing in most every game I have played. Soraka is my main.

Having Soraka completely neutered by an 800g investment by any Marksman is just strait up RIDICULOUS. I don't have a problem with GW per se. Ignite I don't mind, and even Morellos I don't mind. They have their time and place.

EC is a problem. EC being such a cheap and hard counter to my main champion makes me very sad and not really wanting to continue playing unfortunately. There is nothing any Soraka player can do to stop it. Continuous GW HAS NO COUNTERPLAY for a healer.

This needs to be addressed.

It's a delicate balance. If Executioner's calling is too weak, then healers/drain tanks are too strong and vise versa. Riot has also taken stances in the past where they're not okay with someone being able to outheal damage done by carries (hint: like Soraka) or drain tank everything and become unkillable (like Vladimir). Executioner's Calling needs to be as cheap as it is to keep those frustrating playstyles in check.

or you could do the common sense thing and delete grievous wounds and then nerf the sustain of those problem heroes.

But what happens if they introduce a new item (or several items) that make healing unbearable to deal with? What if they rework those sustain supports/drain tanks to have a healing mechanic that can't be balanced through simple number adjustments? You need grievous wounds in the game in order to act as a balance lever. This was said by Ghostcrawler (and I believe Meddler as well). Now feel the full force of my fedora tip in my final form.

that argument takes the form of:

"if X then the game is bad"

so nerf or remove X.

duh

Grievous wounds and its interaction with healing is only 1 aspect of the game. It affects part of the balance of the game but not all of it. That was just a really stupid comment to be honest and I don't know how you ended up with that reasoning but okay. Riot has already commented on what they think about grievous wounds and how they want to balance it for now.

Build item 3504 because it gives extra stats for the person you healed, along with Windspeaker's as your Keystone

I wouldn't say 'completely neutered'. if you're a decent Soraka, there's ways to play around it. You can heal your carry before the grievous wounds are applied, or after the effect expires (3 seconds), so outside of trades you can regularly heal back your carry.

item 3123 should not be overbearing in the laning phase - you can just time your heals around it. What it SHOULD do is stop insane healing in teamfights that sustains carries through ridiculous situations.
