Going Tanky in URF

Earlier today, I was fortunate enough to get in ARURF. I went with .

They were stomping us pretty hard early. At some point in the game, I had everything complete except for Thornmail (but I had the Bramble Vest). Around that time, the Quinn starts complaining to me about how I went tanky in URF. The enemies started to say that I should have built AP instead. When I asked why, they simply responded with "It's URF". I thought that my damage was sufficient enough. If I did go full damage, I would have just died in a few hits when I try to do anything to them. Instead of trying to figure out their reasoning in all chat, I decided just to post here instead.

I normally wouldn't think much of it since it is was coming from people that were probably bitter, but I remember a comment from Redmercy's latest video in which he ranked the top 10 URF champions. In that video, he says something along the lines of "Only the most evil and atrocious people would build tanky" (paraphrasing).

So what is the deal with it? Is it courtesy to not build any tank items in that mode? Maybe they just watched the video too and got brainwashed from it. If it turns out that it is taboo to build tanky in URF, I will still do it. You guys can't make me feel bad for doing it. I just thought that it is an interesting question that I would like to know the answer to. And yes, I am low ELO. Doesn't mean that I am not allowed to have any thoughts.
