Legends of Runeterra. No RNG please.

So I was hoping this card game would be different than all other online card games. It definitely feels really fun, and it does offer a lot of depth, but the problem I have with every online card game is cards that give random effects. Karma, even though this champion card is weak, can provide unbelievable RNG that could literally change the state of the game. There is no strategy to RNG, and it provides no responsive effect if a deck that is locked to 2 realms, can have access to other realms spells. EVEN IF it is locked to your decks realms, it provides extended dominance by giving you more cards that go beyond the card limit of your deck.

The major problem I have with RNG cards, is when people say variance is actually strategic. Imagine if items in LoL had RNG effects (beyond crit, which I'm surprised that is still in the game I think? I haven't played LoL in awhile). It'd just kill the gaming experience if a champions ability had a chance of doing extra damage, or if a player was able to purchase an item early cause he was able to snag even more extra gold off a kill. Imagine if ability cooldowns were reduced with a random number. This is BLIND to the opponent, and they have no way of reacting against it until it becomes apparent what that RNG effect provided.

Hearthstone is a great example of why RNG is really bad. It can either make or break your game. Even getting that extra 1 point of damage can HEAVILY sway the game by denying board state, or it can literally just make you lose because it can provide you a card that has no benefit whatsoever.

I hope something like this gets changed later down the line. Obviously some RNG is unavoidable, like drawing. I had fun playing LoR, and I can't till it releases :)

you can't have no rng in card games have you ever played one before lol

if you can guaranatee your draws then the game is going to be about "my deck does this when i want it to" not "My deck can do this depending on when my deck allows me to"

the game you are chasing is shite it would literally have one good agro deck who wins if it goes first and everyone would have that deck coz nothing else is viable

RNG is what makes these card based games popular. You compared LoR to hearthstone. I havent played LoR yet but I sure have played hearthstone. Arent the most popular cards the RNG ones?

Back from the very gates Dr Boom, who summons 2 boom bots, which deals a random damage to a random enemy, was by far the most played card. Then when Whispers Of The Old Gods came out, Yogg Saron was used in every single spell-casting deck. You know, the high cost cast a bunch of random spells. How about the recent warrior archetype with shuffling bombs? shuffling

I doubt you could find a decent deck without one type of RNG or another, beyond card draw.

Rng is the biggest expression of skill in games like this. The ability to adapt to any situation is what makes these players pro. Otherwise anyone could reach legend rank and all they would need to know is the core mechanics.

It literally isn't possible to have a good card game without RNG, IN FACT, without cheating, it isn't possible to have a card game at ALL without RNG.

A lot of people here have no reading comprehension or just try to be snarky.

I agree with you, cards that generate other randoms card should not be in card games, a mid-range Ionia-Demacia Elite deck should be able to generate Shadow Isle removal cards like Vengeance, Harrowing or Ruination to also instantly become a control deck in a pinch. You're limited to two faction for a reason, you can't pick counterspells and board clears while building aggro and combo.

You obviously can't remove draw RNG but dice rolls card generation is just dumb. Heimer card did it right: you used a 0 mana spell? You get a 0 mana 0/1. Used an 8 mana spell? You get an 8/8. 4 mana? 4/1 fearsome. It's not something like 2 mana spell? 8/8. 7 mana? Get a 1/1.
