Riot- can we talk about Cho Gath?

Cho Gath is in a really awkward state right now since the nerf to his w. The most successful builds recently have been full magic penetration builds but to me that's not what cho gath is about.

The problem is, now thanks in part to his w nerf, along with his clunky moveset, Tank cho basically has no reliable damage. Besides his spikes, he is just far less superior to pretty much any other ap tank in the game now. (Maokai tanks way better thanks to his ult and passive, singed has the movement speed built into his kit to disrupt fights better, galio can absorb a ton of damage and has a great team fight oriented ult, and Naut has a ton of cc built into his kit, swain is the king of drain tanks, and vlad is great at sustained damage)

To me, cho is a sentient void creature that feasts on his enemies to grow stronger. He starts off small and puny, not even a threat to anyone, but then he grows to colossal proportions and is a massive wall of a tank that has the tools to disrupt and peel for your carries. He shouldn't be about 1 shot comboing your opponent with his great ap ratios. That's the only viable way to build him now because he has no reliable damage otherwise! AP Tank cho or just pure tank cho should be his best build path based on his fantasy.

So that's where I want to talk to riot about this. What is cho's fantasy? What is he supposed to be? A tank? A bruiser? A mage? Because he has all these aspects to his kit which can make a lot of builds work well on him, but he doesn't have any cohesiveness in his kit to make everything work. So he is just stuck being either a mediocre tank, a mediocre unreliable burst mage, or a more reliable bruiser (but doesn't have the raw damage in his kit to make it work).

All im saying is that he shouldn't be forgotten. I know he is due for a vgu but it's not likely going to come this year. I would at least like him playable as a tank so I'm not forced to build all these ap items if I want to play him at all in this meta.

There isn't a lot you can change number wise to his kit. It's been fine for a while and if his ap ratios get nerfed harder than there just won't be any point to play him at all. So he needs some other utility in his kit that makes him unique and different from the other ap tanks. His e could be a good place to start since its pretty boring gameplay wise.

TL;DR Cho is in a bad state since his w nerf. The only viable way to build him is as a pure ap penetration mage and that doesn't mesh with his supposed fantasy. Riot needs to look at him again and justify giving him something cool and new and different than the other ap tanks to make him worth playing again.

I mean like.... honestly all the other tanks just need a nerf lol. Cho is in a good spot for where all the tanks should be. Sadly since cho is the only one there, he becomes lack luster compared to everyone else. Im really sick of maokai jumping onto my ADC and taking out 1/2 their hp with a combo....... at least with cho you have to build damage to do damage, but if you build tank you become insanely tanky.

Right I mean poppy and Darius of are two huge factors for the reason why cho's win rate is so low in the top lane. The two can pressure him and constantly engage on him at any point during the laning phase and his tools are good for disengaging when pressured they are hard to land against any laner with movement speed.

But the thing is cho shouldn't really be a huge damage dealer for your team. His kit just offers nothing reliable compared to other juggernauts/tanks. He doesn't have a way to gap close. He has to land his q which has a long wind up time and is easily dodgeable. And now his w doesn't check on cast for whether it deals the damage. So he is easily out maneuvered and outplayed at pretty much every stage of the game.

I don't have an issue with that since he can get really tanky when he is ahead but he just offers nothing else if he is behind even a little bit. "What's the point of playing cho when maokai exists, (ie does everything cho does but better)?" is my point.

I really don't like playing cho mid. Especially against other long range poke mages. I feel like he belongs in the top lane or jungle as a tank. Being a burst mage is not in line with his fantasy imo. He should be like godzilla. Hulking and terrifying because of his size and tankyness not terrified that he's going to 100-0 in less than 5 seconds.

Yeah I agree. My friend mains Cho gath, and he says that right now he's not viable as a top laner and only plays him as an AP mid. Hopefully riot notices that there are chogath players out there who would love to see a full VGU.

lolskill says that i'm top 76 in the world with cho... here is my thoughts: -hit kit is fine -his Q needs to be changed from a burst tool to more a CC tool -his silence shouldn't be reduced by tenacity honestly, this prevents him from being a vangard -his E needs an update

I agree with changing his q to a cc tool instead of it being super bursty.

The silence I don't think matters that much. The duration is fine even if it get reduced by tenacity. He just needs a more reliable way to land the w. You use it to harass but it's not as good any more.

I think his kit could use some touching up. I'm NOT ok with how binary it is.

No it isn't fine honestly, it's like nearly 1 second when you take mercury+15% from masteries and when you try to protect your adc from renekton 1 second is nothing removing cho's niche which is a silence

his kit is awful in this mobility creep meta. he is also outdated as hell im surprised he isint reworked yet

Cho'Gath, simply put, is clunky as hell. His Q is incredibly delayed and boring to use, his W's graphics can mess up when he has to turn to cast it, and his E, to be honest, feels like the definition of "Filler Spell". His ultimate is really the only reason you pick the guy these days since his W got the silence duration reduced and reliability OVERALL nerfed. Granted, HOW it was reliable was bull**** but it was more reliable.

Yeah i agree with his w. It was better before but only because it was "bugged" like that. But the compensation he received I don't think was strong enough to offshoot that nerf.
