Talon Rework in the Assassins Update

Next Class Update - the Assassins

A Note: I know that talon is being reworked. This is about what might change and your thoughts if riot is making the right decision by reworking him.

Ok so as you all know there is a major assassins rework/update coming up. This is mainly about talon and what could change for him. I believe that talon's passive should be completely removed and change in to something unique. Although if his passive changes his Q (Noxian Diplomacy) will also change as well to fit the new mechanics better. This might be the only change for talon but he truly deserves it. So let's talk about Talon. Out of all assassins in the game Talon has historically been the one who's struggled the most with his job to assassinate his foes. Talon completely relies on getting ahead and once he falls behind, there is almost no use for him. The problem here is that talon is either fed and cannot be countered or he is too weak to make any impact on the team.

What Should Stay

Rake and Shadow Assault are about the only working spells on his kit, both thematically and gameplay wise, though the burst damage is slightly high. These spells are perfect for talon and should not change. His Cutthroat is a decent spell but once he goes in he has to kill or be killed unless there is a flash up. To fix this problem there might be slight changes to his Cutthroat mechanics. EDIT: I recently found out that the current E ability will be gone along with his passive 100%.

Summary

So in my opinion Talon should be reworked while keeping to himself. His Rake and Shadow Assault should stay while his Cutthroat should have slight changes. What really needs to be changed is Talon's Passive, Mercy, and his Q, Noxian Diplomacy to work with his new passive. Yes, Talon is a great champion but I think that these changes will truly benefit both Talon players and their opponents. Please leave your thoughts below in the comments and vote if YOU think Talon should be reworked. And yes it is a rework not a small update. Watch REDMERCY's video on YouTube for more info on the removal of cutthroat.

Ideas about Talon -

Should be made manaless. Riot has made several steps away from mana itemization for AD champions. If that's the case, AD champions with high mana dependency like Ezreal (gets away with it by building item 3025 ) Jayce (gets away with it by building item 3042 ), and Talon (lol better hope you get blue buff) should be compensated.

Passive - New Passive - An Offer They Can't Refuse - Talon's auto attacks against a champion mark that champion for death by his allies. When Talon auto attacks a champion, that champion gains a mark, and all of Talon's allies gain 20/25/30% MS when moving towards that champion. The first attack against that champion by an ally other than Talon consumes the mark and deals 50/75/100% of Talon's total AD as bonus physical damage.

The mark lasts 6/7/8 seconds and Talon must wait 30 seconds before marking an enemy again. If Talon's ally kills a marked target, the cooldown resets.

Q - New Q - Hard Negotiations - Talon's next auto attack causes him to leap with a deadly (Assassin's Creed style) aerial slash intended to finish off his target.

No Cost, Cooldown 10/9/8/7/6 Seconds

Auto Attack Bonus Damage: 10/50/90/130/170 (+8% of the target's missing health)

E - New E - Take No Prisoners - Talon stabs a blade into his target's back, dealing 80/110/140/170/200 physical damage (+100% bonus AD) over 5 seconds. If the target attempts to dash away during the bleed, Talon yanks the chain on the dagger back to him, pulling the target back to Talon's location and stunning them for 1 second.

No Cost, Cooldown 12 Seconds

If rake and shadow assault stay then talon's counter play is going to have to come from having low or situational mobility outside of shadow assault since those spells are basically guaranteed to hit everything within 500 range of him.

It is very likely Talon will have more changes than that. He has been specifically brought up as a problem by riot before for having a very fast and very reliable kill pattern when even slightly ahead, giving enemies very few non-general means of playing against him outside of "do not let him be ahead".

He will very likely have some way for enemies to play against him added, and then the rest of his kit adjusted to make up for it (which would include a new passive to replace the useless one he currently has).

meddler said he hates the passive and its going away. would post a link but its probably buried so far down that it would take too long

As another Mastery 7 Talon main, I am opposed to any change whatsoever unless it's to make his passive feel less meh. I mean it's not a BAD passive but it just does nothing. He might as well not even have one.

I wouldn't say reworked but more or less updated. His passive is almost nonexistent when actually providing extra damage, his cut throat makes no sense thematically, Noxian Diplomacy is pretty much just an auto attack reset and as you said 2 abilities are only actually good in his case. His kit is literally damage with almost no utility which means if he's far behind he will have no escape or anything as all his spells except shadow assault makes him go in rather then get out.

I definitely agree about the passive. Champions that have a lot of power in their passive tend to be a lot more fun, thinking about Fiora, Jhin or Illaoi, where your whole gameplay revolves around using their passives correctly.

But I think what's more important is that his E has to change. He has to be kept so weak because of how easily he can advance on someone. Honestly, I wish they'd get around to removing all auto-targeted gap closers with this update but I know they won't be able to do that. But if Talon loses his auto-targeted gap closer he can have a lot more power put in to something that's actually fun to use, like his W or R.

I bet Talon's E will be replaced with ropedarts.

Riot, my ideas for Talon's rework. I'm a season 4 hard Talon main and I've been playing him on multiple accounts since his E had a silence. I feel like he's too mana hungry early game, so there's that. Fix his mana problems. Talon has no way to make up for it unless you want to go Tear Talon which sucks. Second, his passive is useless. It just helps you win lane and you don't auto attack much in team fights to late game anyway. His Q doesn't make sense because the bleed damage doesn't scale that well and it doesn't kill the target unless I throw an ignite on them. His W is fine, just decrease the mana costs. His E could be reworked to give him more mobility. His R is fun but there should be more room for counter play. Thanks and have a great day! I feel like Talon should be reworked in a way that makes him viable for LCS and competitive play again. I'd pay to watch Talon get played again in LCS. Talon Talon Talon Talon Talon

I've been playing talon pretty long and i really like him just the way he is now. im almost lvl 7 mastery on him and its been working out completely fine. Please dont rework him and if you do, please dont change him a lot. Thanks.

AcidTheWarlock8/4/2016, 2:19:05 PM1 votes

Talon's fun as hell but he's actually kind of predictable. You know what he's going to do and you really can't outplay him in the <2 seconds it takes for him to burst you down.

And his passive is utterly useless.

I'd be down for a rework as long as he still has that feel of assassination, like you're not playing League, you're playing Assassin's Creed or Dishonored.
